STI Version 8's - Newbie Question
Evening all
i am looking into buying an STi Version 8.
I have done some reading back on old topics, and i was mainly curious in the types/version you can buy. With all these "Type Uks" and "PPPs" etc etc it makes it difficult to know what you are getting with each car.
I also heard the JDM models are the better cars
as seen in a previous topic...
1. Clear Indicators.
2. RE070 Tyres.
3. Twin Scroll turbo with more efficient exhaust path.
4. Auto 7 Manual Intercooler waterspray.
5. Electric folding mirrors.
6. Auto/manual DCCD.
7. Red backlit intrument panel which sweeps on start up
8. Flare in passenger footwell (for when you breakdown)
9. Quick rack steering rack.
10. All the suspenion is different. Bushes ARB etc.
11. The JDM Sti weighs 1,440kg vs 1,470kg UK Sti for the 2003 model. I don't know why it is lighter though.
12. Rear Wiper
13. HID Lights
14. Treated crank, Grooved crank for better oil distribution
15. Large port cylinder heads
16. More aggressive Cams
17.Shorter 5th and 6th gear ratio, not hectic on the motorway before people start saying it is just gives you more accelleration
18. uk 265bhp - jdm 300bhp out the box
19. Magnesium Alloys (Light weight)
20. Bigger Smile!!
21. Cheaper insurance!!!
the only thing is, when looking on autotrader, i can't spot the differences only if it states "Type UK" or the like... how can you tell its a JDM, without doing a HPI check?
thanks all.

The ads should say JDM or Japanese import. I would only buy from a seller who knew what they were selling! Have a look at Dicksons of Dunblane, that's where I got my JDM STi 03. Ideally, with any car, and even more importantly with a JDM, you want full history and a Japanese auction certificate with grade 4, 4.5 or 5, and check it very carefully for accident damage, although the auction certificate will state if the car has been accident repaired.

Ok, (apologies for any typos but I've had a few)
Type UK is a vehicle which has been type approved for this country. It will normally be sold by a Subaru dealer. Comes with warranty etc etc.
JDM is a vehicle which was originally sold to the Japanese Domestic Market, so will be classed as a grey import on an SVA test. They often have extras like rear wash/wipe.
All IMHO of course....
1)Doesn't worry me
2) Are £250 a corner when they wear out
3) God knows
4) My UK specs have always had manual intercooler spray
5) Don't come on UK cars
6) Standard on my MY06
7) Standard on my MY06
8) Easily purchasable from the mad bloke in your local
9) I think so.....
10) Dunno....mines got Prodrive stuff on
11) I could say that I'm a fat *******......
12) Not on a UK car
13) The MY06 has HIDs as standard
14 - 19) Engine gurus?
20) I always smile when I get into my car!
21) Depends who you insure with.......some companies hide away fro JDM's
All IMHO, I would go with the UK car and get the Prodrive toys, then ou at least have a fairly bullet proof warranty. Hope this helps

so long and the short is to go for a JDM - sounds like a similar principle to that of a p1 and a type r - only i went for the p1... but i am after some toys this time round, and more importantly more tuning ability.
