Listen for rear shocks knocking on pulling away, stopping and going over some bumps, they all have a tendency to fail prematurely. Run it on Shell V power or Tesco 99, I wouldn't use any lower octane fuel. I recently bought a JDM STI 03 after owning 4 Scoobs, 2 STi's and 2 WRX's, all UK cars.

Not sure about jdm's because mine is a uk sti. Can't remember what exactly is done on the 3 year service but i know diff oil should be done and the full service costs around 350 to 400 quid. My car uses whatever oil Subaru dealers use which i can only assume is recommended by Subaru.
Enjoy the car

Not sure if jdm's suffer the same shocker issues as uk cars.

wellcome to SN

i am also a owner of a 03 JDM STI , i would get it remap with a turbo back system and you will have a very fast A-B car. and i mean fast~~ i have had 5 scoobies before this and you cant compare its just too good....

i am sure many will tell you JDM is the one to have as its got the special Twin scroll VF36/37 turbo wich you wont get with UK cars

get a proper exhaust it will sound like a WRC car due to its got Equal-length headers

as for oil change. i change mind every 2500-3000miles. as oil is not that expensive. just to keep the engine fresh.

i think you need to change the diff+gearbox oil every 30k ?

JDM cars feature a better crank (allowing an 8,000rpm redline), more aggressive inlet cams, Twin Scroll turbo, quick rack etc etc. They have a better specification over their UK counterparts, end of.

JDM is the way to go if you want the 'better' car.

There is a recommended servicing schedule (in .pdf format) on Litcho's website. It recommends the changing of the diff oil (centre and rear) every 10k miles, but it does say for DCCD equipped cars.

Changing the engine oil every 5,000 miles probably isn't all that necessary depending on how your using your car. I do it just for peace of mind.

Either way, I think you've made the right choice in buying a JDM model.

Good luck with it
