INCONSISTENT FUEL CONSUMPRION AND DUAL RANGE GEARING
First post, hi all. Just got my first scoob a week ago etc etc.
Ok, so... 2 Litre GX AWD...
I drove 206 miles from Liverpool to Bristol, at 70 mph, Motorways all the way in quiet traffic. This cost me a full tank which was close to £35.
After ****** myself (!) I refilled, and on the return, after filling £35 again, found that i arrived home with half a tank left!!!
Can anyone give me any help with why this happened as i'm clueless!!!
What are other people fitting in their tanks, what are they getting for their money?? It just seems strange how it worked out for me today!!
Also, with the dual range gears, when in Lo range, should i be able to tell??!! Strange question maybe, it's just that i can't tell really that its in lo range apart from the light on the dash saying 'LO'!!! At 20mph for example, will it rev higher in low range than normal?? Sorry for possibley sounding so daft...
John.

its cos you were going south mate, its down hill,,, pmsl
right joking aside, should think it was due to going south, we are in a southerly wind at the min (i think), and that will make a huge difference, wind behind you is a very very big advantage

i've driven 30k+ a year for 5 years in cars and vans throughout the year all over the UK and have never experienced this.
A logical answer that has come up on SIDC forum is this....
Probably the ECU learning. Its normal when you've not been on the motorway for some time, you still burn fuel like you're drining on the B-Roads. After a long motorway trip the ECU adjusts and uses less fuel. You'll probably find your next tank on the B-Roads will last longer too!
Most of my driving is B-roads, so when I get on the motorway, the first tank is lucky to last 250km. Couple of tanks later I can be pushing 400km!
thanks for helping though.
bongo.
