Default RAC Tracker......Works for me!

Just thought i'd let you know: Yesterday my car broke down ( clutch pedal on the floor ) I got the AA out and they put it on a low loader and transported it to Subaru 4 You for fixing. 5 minutes after leaving my phone rang and it was RAC Trackstar asking my where my car was as they had an alert from my tracker device. I explained to them the situation and they just wanted to know where the vehicle was going and for how long. I thanked them and added that it was nice to know the system worked !
So, I know they've had a bit of bad press on this before but credit where it's due. It worked for me.

Good news.

I've been paying my £110 subscription to Tracker for 4 years for my Tracker Monitor and I have no idea if the thing works or not.

The RAC tracker people were great on my old Scooby. I rang them and enquired as to how I knew I was getting my moneys worth and asked them to tell me where I was. They agreed and said they couldnt tell and was I parked under the sea or in a multi storey. I wasnt so they sent out a nice little man in a van who located my device, stroked it gently and put it back in its secret place.
Then they did two further testies and both worked well

So I told my dad about this excellent service. He had a trackstar one and he phoned them to ask them to test his. They told him to go away. He cancelled his subs and moved to RAC. They obliged him accordingly come testy time...

So the moral is yes, coolgrey you are correct indeed... First class

Mine works as well.
I would like to move it to a more secret place though.

why dont they get the manufacturers to incorperate the tracker pcb & stuff into the ecu, make it known that the antenna, is vital for the operation of the tracker and ecu,

if the antenna fails, or is tampered with, the car shuts down. (when safe) ie stopped at a junction etc

Okay, will make this really simple. GPS signals are completely blocked by metal, either that, or the signal is bounced around (multipath) causing an error in the computed position.

Bearing this in mind, certain parts of the 'tracker' system must be installed in an 'open' area. On some systems, this is totally visable, especially if you know what you are looking for...

I am not going to explain how to do it, but put two and two together........it is very easy to disable the GPS part of the tracker.

The GSM/radio based part can be jammed by off the shelf products.

Basically any system can be rendered useless in less than 10 seconds.....
