Agreed.
I have seen pads from a car whose discs were badly worn and the pads had taken thier profile. If these pads were then put on another car the contact point would have been seriously reduced for a fair few miles. Obviously the cars braking performance would have been comprimised.

You happily pay £646 for a Re-Map then refuse to buy NEW Brake Parts??
You are a bloody idiot - sorry, thats about the sum of it!!
No glamour in brake parts so you will put yourself and passengers at risk showing off your new re-map results?????
You should be BANNED from driving - I feel THAT strongly about your backward attidtude to safety!! MY family could be in the car you wiped out because you haven't got 2 brain cells to rub together!!

Despite whats been spouted in this thread, I put some used pads on my car a year ago as they were given to me for free, pleanty of wear left in them and were absolutely fine.
Think about the rational, if putting used pads on your car is bad, then you'd change your pads after every car journey becuase now your new pads are 'used'. If they have a good deal of wear left in them they'll be fine. Got no idea what they are worth, certainly less than 50% of the new price though.

I don't think its an issue with the ammount of wear left on them. Its the fact that they will be shaped to the disks of the car that they came off of, i.e. there could be less contact on your disks

And that they're off someone else's car, who may well have cooked them up nicely, before letting them glaze then selling them to you. You wouldn't buy someone's used pants would you? Regardless of if they'd only been worn once or twice.
Second hand discs with plenty of meat on them and nice and flat, OK. Second hand pads not OK unless they are free of charge, or very near to it.

thats very simple maths you have used there mate, unfortunatly, the simple division cant be used here, its all to do with friction, surface area contact.
i changed my pads yesterday on my car. Brandnew out the box. I could see that they were not sat flat on the disc's, as said before, they are not flat. its not a nice feeling turning the key driving down the road and pressing the brakes for the 1st time. Very soft. That said, 1 mile and a bit of left foot braking and there was a bite, a good bit to the brakes.
I done a few laps of the bypass in my area with varied braking from various speeds and in about 15, 20 miles, they were spot on.
did the TTS highforce run out and i have to say, 100 miles under he belt and they are **** hot

I agree that the maths is oversimplified, but it makes the point. I think that you'll find that new pads wear down quicker initially to 'bed in'. Once they have been subjected to some hard applications the material properties change and the wear rate reduces. e.g.

I think a little common sense applies here. Put the pads on, then take the car somewhere safe (after checking the brakes at least work) and give the brake pedal a good working starting at low speeds and building up. If after 5-10 stops they still feel bad then bin them, if they are getting better then carry on braking them in until they work properly. As I said, never had any problem with using a second hand set on my car.

I have bought and run used pads before to good effect. If they are no good you soon know about it and throw them away. It's a gamble.
Saying that I have never used them on the road before.

Got to join in with the masses on this one Bob, you've got your budget all wrong on your car if you're thinking of running 2nd hand stuff on the braking front, but happy to pay for a remap! Not quite right there mate

Well i ignored the masses(leeches and ganger-uppers) and put them on anyway.
Using a little bit of common sense and mechanical knowledge after examining them(they looked bob on) and fitting, i took the car on some private roads and bedded them in slowly but surely. They work a treat and braking has been noticeably improved.
Another bargain
