John,
Hope you can give me some info on costs of owning a cosworth powered westfield?
Is also it possible to get faster ratio steering racks for them as all reports I've seen say the steering isn't very direct and I like realy pointy cars.
Thanks in advance
Adrian

dificult to answer on cost, it depends how far you want to go with the cars performance and what you want to use it for.
you can get a quick rack from westfield or use a MK2 escort rally rack. That the next mod for me as the rack isnt fast enough for my tastes either.

I was realy maybe after a price for a good to excelent condition one, that is not to old. I have beentrying to decide what to buy and like light weight and turbo power. As I built a RS turbo powered Kit car (just don't tell anyone it was a Dutton or they will take the micky) but it did manage 13.06 at 104 at pod not bad for a 1600 RWD lump of resin.

well, you are going to struggle to find one, they are rare as rocking horse ****.
Not sure on exact fugures but i believe less than 20 of these beasts were built. Unlike most Westfields, the ZEi220 was a production only vehicle and has full type aproval to be sold in europe as a production car. Mine sold for over £22,000 back in 1993, its was not a cheap toy to buy. In fact mine was the factory press car and was run by the MD of westfield as his own car for a couple of years. Mine also has the fantastic Borg Warner T5 box, the others made have the less racey MT75 box.
If you can find one you will be looking at paying anything from £12,000 up, depending on spec. I think mine is the most radical one there is out there, but i have never actually seen another one. I think you would need to spend £15,000 to buy one as quick as mine.
If you plan to use it on the road only, then they are incredibly cheap to run, the main costs for me have been on tyres, oil, fuel, brake pads and stuff i melt
use it as a weekend road rocket and it will cost you peanuts to run.

I thought Westfield only made a handful of those Zei220 things (or whatever) ?
I've been looking for one but the only one I've seen was on an out of date web page - a green and yellow ex Westfield demonstrator, I wonder if I can guess who owns it now
Pah forget that Cosworth rubbish , I'm real tempted by the Rover V8 powered Locost in Autotrader for 3.5K, or possibly the blatantly ridiculous Chevy V8 Locosts (don't ask me how that fits

Thanks for the info John, the cost I think is ok but as you said the biggest problem is finding one. I suspect the insurance would be ok as it is fully type approved. Shame they used the mt75 gearbox in some of them as they possibly have the woolyest gearchange since the marina.
