Smile Newbie - advice needed on model choice

Hello there!

Been lurking in the background for a while trying to glean as much info as I can from you all but I've now finally plucked up enough courage to make my first post!

Been looking at changing my current motor for a while now, test driven loads of possible replacements but couldn't decide....until I had a go in an Impreza......awesome is the only word that springs to mind!

Anyway I'm now looking for a few pointers regarding which model to go for. I've narrowed it down to two plus a wildcard ..........

1) 2.5 WRX STi with PPP
2) 2.0 WRX STi with PPP
3) WR1 (the wildcard)

I refuse to by a brand new car, I'd rather go for something no more than a year old 'cos I'm slowly turning into a boring old fart who likes the security of a manufacturers warranty! There are a few used STi's kicking about that fit the bill but I don't really know which one to go for. On average an 06 plate 2.0 seems to be about £2000 cheaper than an 06 plate 2.5, is the extra cash a worth while investment?

Then there is the WR1! I like the look of this a lot but the old fart in me rears his ugly head the moment I look at one of these and starts banging on about minimal or no manufacturers warranty.

Decisions, decisions........bloomin' good fun looking though!

Any help, comments or general rants relating to my quandry would be much appreciated!

Ta muchly!

Have a look here Litchfield Imports

A lot of people on here recommend Iain Litchfield, and many will also tell you that JDM (Japanese Domestic Model) cars are superior to the UK models. They are correct.

If you're dead set on a UK car, and it must have warranty. Then an '05 STi (#2) would be my choice.

Lost most of the depreciation already.

There's been a few on here for sale, probably still are, at a good price.

2.5 is a really torquey engine and the car is a little bit better looking(my veiw)..As above 05 have lost a lot of there value now but equally a good car.The 2.5 STI is a very hard ride and can become a bit of pain after a while but apart from that its an excellent car..this is the one to go for!!!!!

Quality first post

I think you have researched this well, your choices are spot on, (well WR1 I dont like the colour) but thats just me.

My tuppenceworth would be for a 2.0 STi as its cheaper and get an improved mod like TSL or Powerstation as the warranty is not much of an issue, (you can buy a used car warranty if you wish) to give you peace of mind for the major bills. You probably wont need it though as all these are quite reliable.
Depreciation is a killer on new/nearly new cars. imho.

Thanks for the responses so far folks, very useful!

Hmmmm, like the idea of a Litchfield....also like the idea of the 05 STi, especially from a financial point of view! More money to spend on "stuff" with the latter .....time for a few TSL and Powerstation searches!

It's great this, like being 18 again!
