Scooby a family car??
We have a Clio 182 and just sold my Civic Type-R
and looking at getting a 4 door car as we have a 2 month old.
Just wondering what peoples views with babies/young children is on this.
Otherwise it's going to be a CRV.

4 doors? Big boot? Practical yet fun? (if you get a Wagon) 4 wheel drive? Safe handling?
Sounds like a good family car to me!

Arrrggghhhh don't do it.
I went from a Type R to WRX as I have 2 kids & a 4 door is so much more practical (even has ISOFIX anchor points in the back). Seeing as your child is a baby I'd go for the wagon what with buggies etc to cart around.

i,ve got the best model which is a bugeye wagon and my wife is pregnant with our first and to be honest we couldn,t have a more practical car . think about it!!! the baby can sleep to the sound of the burble

Family Car
I had a MY99 5 door Turbo for 3 years. Got a big lab cross dog and for the last two years of ownership 3 kids. Fanbloodytastic car, not the most roomy but hey what the hell I liked it. 
Then mother-in-law split from dad-in-law and I had to swap it for a 2003 Espace YES A BLOODY ESPACE!!!
Kept that for two and a half years and as soon as mommy-in-law was out the door and into her new house I started the search for another Scoob because the Espace had already started to fall to bits!
Now the happy owner of a MY04 wagon with PPP.
My daughter is now 17 and no longer wants to go anywhere with us so I'm now usually carting around 2 kids, two dogs and sometimes a trailer on the back with my trials bike in. I'm in the fortunate position of being able to afford a few big estates but I prefer the Scoob....... It just fits me! (and it's paid for!)
P.S. If anyone is considering buying an MPV steer WELL clear of the Espace. Total piece of cr@p & dealers no better.

Check the boot, the saloon is suspringly big and I found that our buggy fitted better in my Dads Mcrae & RB5 than it did in my wagon.

I had a tek3'd MY99 DBM classic that I p-ex'd for a Forester turbo when the missus was preggers with our first. The ride on the Impreza was just too harsh for a heavily pregnant lady to be honest.

Some people struggle with the ride, others find it fine. In many ways the WRX is a lot better family car than the STi - all the "raw" driving benefits of the STi tend to be downsides in the Mrs/small childs eyes (kick in the back when the turbo finally wakes up in the earlier 2L ones, hard ride for sharper handling etc). I even know of an 02STi owner who ended up fitting WRX springs/shocks to satisfy his wife . . .

I asked myself the same question when I am had family hatchbacks for years. Always wanted a 4-door wrx, but when I got to the dealers I walked away with a wagon
Perfect....all the fun of a scoob and plenty of flexible space for kids stuff. The roof bars are great and with a detachable towbar you can get bikes on back too.
It's given our five year old "playground cred"...he loves it...
Go on.... get a wagon...you know it makes sense.

I've got an 04 rex sedan and a 4 month old son. It's practical enough and the exhaust sends my kid to sleep. 
If I could choose again though, I'd get the wagon.

If you get a WRX then make sure you get PPP too, makes a big difference to the drivability I have been told.
I had a std WRX but with centre cat removed and H&S backbox, and it went fine and sounded fantastic.
Now have an STi and it is still our only car. Trackday on the Saturday and tescos on the Sunday.
Only problem is that my daughter gets car sick, but I have to remember that going to tescos is not a trackday and it is fine then.

Scoobys make great family cars, and my kids love waving at other scooby owners when there out and about with me, but my youngest (5) always wants me to overtake and put my foot down, to which I have to decline as I do not drive fast with my kids in the car. Obviously though she has her old mans genes!

I got a forester STI following arrival of our first (and only - hopefully), this was a change from a WRX PPP thinking it would be a more appropriate family car, to be honest the impreza would have been plenty big enough especially if you only have one child. However the extra space is handy if going away for a few days since a baby seems to have 20 times its body weight in paraphernalia to lug around.

Go for it! I've got a 4 yr old and a 1 yr old and MY06 4 dr WRX. I've had no problems using it for the family. Two buggies will go into the boot and there are no issues with child seats. You won't go wrong with one of these.

I've had my bug (saloon) for 5 years now and I'd say they make a great compromise between a driver's car and a family car. On the family car side it's got a huge boot, 4 doors and it's easy to get kids in and out of. Had some memorable holidays driving down to southern France, full laden cruising at 90mph in 35 degrees of heat.
Then it's 4WD 225bhp turbo as well

The reason I ask was that my folks had a dog when my sis was a baby.
She was at the top of the stairs, it jumped on her and sis rolled down the stairs ! (unhurt fortunately). The pooch went soon after !

Had our scoob for 3 years and our daughter is now 5. First 2 years we used an E30 BMW estate but it was a 316 and dog slow - although nice to drive.
We wanted a wagon due to the amount of stuff we carted about when she was a baby. We struggled to find a nice wagon close by but by 2 years we didn't need alot of the stuff - bottle warmer, high chair, wheely thing they use to get around etc.
So settled on the saloon. Does the job.
