Stop your scoob being stolen.
Last night I was bored and did a little surfing and could not find this product.
As you are aware there are security locks for pc's, doors,etc. that work with a fingerprint ID.
It must be possible to incorporate one of these into a car security system, this could either be used for starting the car or to immob.some important system eg. fuel pump,ECU etc.
This does away with the need for a transponder type keyfob(Blackjax) or equiv. these can be forced into being handed over either by violence or just having them on the keys (commonly stolen these days).
Only the most insane scum/vermin that steal cars would attempt to steal a car that can only be started with a fingerprint scanner (you cant lose these or forget to bring them with you.) Also if you are not in the car it cannot be re-started even if they force you to start it once.
The other option for certain countries with more lax regs. for security systems this could be linked to a time delay system that gives a verbal warning after a few mins driving that the system is armed and to disarm will require fingerprint ID, failure to disarm will result in a smelly/toxic/irritant/dye or other unpleasant substance being released in the cars interior. Now I know poison/fire/large spike through the drivers seat seems suitable here but I dont think even S. Africa would allow this.
Just a vague pondering here but there must be some possibility of something like this working?

Finger print recognition is likely to result in owners having their fingers chopped off to start the car. Much better in the long run to hand the keys over

Not if they enter your house, cut off your finger and use it to start the car.

Also, what happens when you need the car serviced or MOT'd ?

I'm for this but I think what would be good to compliment this is a personal tracking and activation system unlike Tracker where you have to ring them and they do nothing. First it would be sold to you and you fit it to your own car and you have options to remotely trigger it to track. You go on to your computer and see where it is. You could also activate some basic functions e.g. disable the car so it gives out an audible warning and slowly stops. Would require it's own battery pack, etc. I'm all for something that induces pain but don't think it would pass the legals!! Maybe we could have a black market that sells add on's (electric shock anyone!!!)

The whole fingerprint scanning idea I don't think will take off. The technology was big in Asia a few years ago but, as correctly mentioned, Businessmen were getting kidnapped by gangs and having their fingers hacked off to steal their cars worth £60,000 +. I think the idea died a death there and then.

Same as most systems that have "valet mode" you can disable system with master overide for this requirement.

Do you really think that the average vermin that steal cars would cut your finger off?

I am tempted to say I would give you the finger , however it should be possible to get the system to recognise a new finger in the event of a sale.

On a serious note, could put a simple switch to the fuel pump, then hide it somewhere near the dash/seat etc... car won't be starting if there isn't any petrol!! Won't stop it being towed away but will stop it going anywhere if the keys are stolen for a joy ride!!

Worked a treat on my old Land Rover...........no one ever tried to nick it though

Not if it is implemented properly. The scanner should also test for temperature and pulse before operating.

It states in the FAQ's that the system requires a pulse from the finger. They do qualify this by stating "We have been informed", like to know how they tested this part of the system.

I know a guy who was carjacked and beaten up very bad he adapted a caravan stabiliser that was located under the sills of the car he had a button inside once pressed the stabiliser bar shot out onto their shins and caused quite a lot of pain they dont get up and run off highly illegal so what

in a hijack situation let them have the car, once they have gone get your mobile out and call it in to hijack mode.
the car will cut out and won't restart enough time to alert the police
and the phone will also tell you the car location

Just a thought for anyone who has had their car EcuTek'd. How about installing a 2nd 'security' map (I think this can be done) with a 1500rpm rev limit. When parking up, you switch to the secure map. If the car does get stolen, the chances are it'll be abandoned pretty much straight away as the the theives hit the rev limiter at 1500rpm and the car hardly moves forward
