all these models are getting pretty confusing.

turbo 2000
WRX
STI

whats the difference? all the ones im looking at are 1994-1997 some say turbo 2000 some say WRX. are these the same car or what

Turbo 2000 is a UK car
WRX is basic Japanese spec but a better spec than a UK car
STI is the top spec with a different engine etc. It depends on the year what is different but they are more powerful.

so is it the import that has the top speed limiter?
also can this not be removed?

Imports as standard have a 180kmh (110mph) limiter but most of those have been removed. If not it's possible to get that done.

In my opinion cars that are still limited will always be a better buy because imprezas don't really like high speed driving. If you can't find one that is still limited it's no biggie but a limited one will have been stressed less.

thanks for the advice, just hope i can find a decent one for my money now!
got around 3500 to spend. seems to be quite a few nice ones out there for that kinnda price!

If you shop around you should be able to pick up something good for that money. You should be looking at a 260ps wrx (dark seats with grey inserts instead of red) or a late UK for that money. It's a minefield so it comes down to spec & mileage really. As for faults I don't really know. Someone else can help you out there

rocker cover leak
camshaft seal leak
engine knock
clutch judder (something that you just have live with)
MAF failure
coil packs on older wrx's

Its all quite easy to sort and not mjor expensive, go for the sep 94 and beyond as this is the 260ps / 256bhp engine wrx import.

Mines forsale and its still got the limiter onit, £3500

it all depends if your handy,

camshaft seals cost around £200 including labour from a Subaru dealer, but you might as well whack on a cam belt while you're there which is around £70.

rocker cover seals round about thee same but you can these yourself, i believe the seals are around £40, but not sure

MAF sensor, easy to fit, cost around £100

Coil packs, not sure about these really

Knock is a problem that seems to effect the cars MY97-99. Some people use a knock link to monitor the effect but if you're sensible and look after the machine like you would any other (i.e. let it warm up and down, don't redline it etc etc), its a pretty bomb proof engine...don't worry plump up the courage, you won't regret it.

Bought a W reg MY00 uk turbo 2000 in June, 61k on the clock.

First time on the motorway, engine warning lights, power didnt feel right, I thought the sky was going to fall on my head!

It was the MAF sensor, yep, about £100. Find yourself a good subaru servicing place and make sure its looked after, you will love it !

Removing the limiter isn't done just to make it possible to red line in 5th!

It's also a good alternative to fitting a new dial to convert the speedo to mph. In many ways, delimiting is better as the odometer then reads in miles rather than kms.

Can't think that I've driven my 93 WRX more than 100 miles at speeds over 110mph in 110,000 miles of driving!!
