Default watsegate

silly question but waht is the purpose of the wastegate and do they have a setting that is recommended?

should they be ran fully open or does this cause problems

please dont shoot me down just learning new things

The more exhaust gas you create, the faster the turbo spins, the more boost it generates, the more fuel/air mixture the engine ingests, the more exhaust gas you create. As you can see the point comes where the turbo will be generating far more boost pressure than you can actually use. The purpose of the wastegate, is to vent this excess pressure (either into the engine bay, or more commonly into the exhaust downpipe).

If the wastegate is constantly open you will not generate any boost at all; if its constantly closed you wil go very very fast, but not for very long.....
