Default Newbie - Stereo Question

Hi,

Just got myself my first subaru yesterday, 05 Plate WRX SL in Red. Seems to be a great car and feels much faster than my Clio 172 that I traded in (also managed 320 miles out of my first tank of petrol which is a bonus!)

Obviously was in the car about 15 mins and found out its first major flaw - the standard stereo is rubbish! Undecided if it is the stereo or speakers that are at fault or a combination of the two.

Just wondered if anyone had any advice on what to upgrade? Is it an aftermarket head unit and new speakers that are required or just a new head unit?

wait till you take the speakers out of an MY05 and you'll see why you did. Cardboard cr*p they are - totally awful. HU is not that much better but best to do the whole lot at once. It's a shocking system that's not built to a price, because they have not spent any money on it at all. Change both if you can, but if you only do one, the speakers have to be the first to go...

I just added a head unit (Pioneer) and a small sub, used the built in crossover from the head unit to remove the bass from the speakers and am quite happy with the way they sound now. Tis better than the standard set up and I normally listen to the exhaust anyway

Welcome mate. Check out the ICE Section, as this thread will eventually get moved there! The HU and Speakers are really bad in the Subarus. If money is no object change the lot (lots of info on installs in ICE Section), but if on a tight budget, change the Speakers 1st as I`ve suggested to another Newbie asking a similar question.
