An import offers a lot more bang for you buck. But then insurance can be upto 50% more expensive.
Imports also come with a lot more toys. Depends what you are looking for and how much you want to spend.

There was only £10 difference between an UK STI PPP and a JDM STI in the insurance quotes i got.
JDM's are mean't to be far better in many ways. A quick search will bring up quite a few threads on the subject.

its because of your beast (CAR) that i am asking the question.
i was all set to get a WR1 until the october meet at the Toby and i fell in love with yours. How is the new type 25 suspension? you had only had it 2 hours when i saw you last. Is it a must have mod?

Daft question, but are Jap cars undersealed to the same spec as UK cars? Just that I would hate to see the damage caused by all the salt/grit in Winter if they're not.
Also, I can't read Japanese too well . I prefer to read how often the services have been carried out in english.
As for the toys, my last car had everything on it and I don't miss any of them. Even during all the hot weather during the summer, I can only think of two or three days when I missed AC! Having said that I miss having a rear wiper. Not having one makes it harder to tell if the dibble are following you in the rain.
And for the record I have no problem seeing off Clio 172's in my crappy slow UK turbo. It's all down to the nut holding the steering wheel. It's the Porsche 911's I have problems with.
Just my little opinion - each to their own, and all that.

I've just bought a JDM STi 03, after owning 2 Type UK STi's, one PPP, one standard. I will never buy a UK Impreza again, for reasons far too numerous to mention here. (You'll see all the reasons in other replies & threads). You have to DRIVE an import to understand the differences, simple as that.
With the STi PPP 03, I paid £720 a year, fully comp, £350 excess, Privilege Insurance, and they wanted a Tracker.
JDM STi 03, standard car, I pay £590 a year fully comp, £500 excess, with A-Plan, and I live in a London postal area, with 6 points and 2 SP30's, and they DON'T want a Tracker, just a Cat 1 alarm.

You can buy an official Subaru owners handbook for the JDM model, in English, for cars that were officially imported into New Zealand from Japan, on Ebay, of all places, there are also unofficial copies for sale on there. Additional undersealing can be done for around £60-80.

Probably just my bad luck, but the 3 Jap imports I looked at prior to getting my immaculate uk spec car were all nails and appeared to have spent all their life on a track.
Don't get me wrong, I appreciate that you can find immaculate imports and nailed uk cars too, before you all have a go at me!

Hi paulthejambo,
I spent 5 months looking and looking, firstly for a JDM 03 and also for a UK 05. I looked daily, on every website you can imagine, I have several replies from 'importers', quoting all the details, and many of them wanted around £16500 to £17000 on the road for an 03 JDM, grade 4 to 5 car, which was over my budget, considering there were, at the time, two 05 UK STi's priced at around £15500, one was black with 4400 miles, the other was blue with 10000 miles, both 1 owner.
I also made LOADS of phone calls to various independent dealers around the UK, until I found my car. It was in Scotland, I'm in London, so I flew up and drove back! Its a 1 owner (in Japan) Japanese Import, with full Subaru documented Japanese history in the Japanese Subaru service book, the owners handbook, and other documents, all in the original 'FujiSubaru' folder! It's also a Japanese auction grade 5A car, document supplied with the car, which means the car is literally unmarked, inside out. Not even one stone chip on the bonnet, until I drive a few miles on our ****ty roads, 19000 miles, and it does look, feel and drive perfectly.
So if you want an import JDM, it must, (no reason why it shouldnt), have all the Japanese documentation, including confirmation of the Japanese auction grading, which is done very strictly. Any fiddles from dealers in auctions in Japan, and they would lose all credibility instantly, and never be allowed to sell a car through an auction again. If you're ever aound the Heathrow area, you're welcome to come and see my car.
Hope this helps you a bit!

Another thing is why is there alot of people that still believe that the air con is only for those hot summer days??... Also does a spot on job in the winter when its pissing down with rain and your windows are shut, specially when there are passengers in the car
