Default Clunky WRX MY2001

Looking for some advice to save me a bob or two. I know you guys are pretty savvy mechanics (well some anyway) and I am certainly not.

My dec 01 (30K miles) WRX has started making horrible clunky noises from the nearside front, fine on smooth roads and at speed, horrible on uneven surfaces especially when slow. Sounds like something is loose and going to fall off but my garage says no. They reckon one of 3 things but are not sure; drop links, top mounts or shock units. Doing all will be pricey and not guaranteed to resolve it .

Has anyone else had or hear of similar...... help would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Do the drop links first. That's what was causing the same problem on my 01 40k mile WRX. They're not expensive.

Same happened to my old car (non-Subaru), the 'clonks' sometimes happened when I was on full lock too. That was the drop-links apparently.

How much are drop links?
Can you buy up rated ones?

Before you go splashing the cash mate, jack
up the car and give the exhaust a wee push and
a pull (towards the doors direction)
Mine made this clunky noise - the heat sheild was
hitting the support bracket. Just bent the heat sheild
out of the way - problem solved

Craig.

Default Ta for the advice guys

I'll have a look at the exhaust but the mechanics had a good pull about underneath on the 4 post.....

Droplinks are apparently £25 each from Subaru, I was told that they are plastic on the earlier WRX but metal on the late ones? Either way I'm sure there are upgrades out there....

I'll do them first & see what happens....

How did you/they get to find it was a worn hub Fizz?
