Reading reports of yesterdays judgement, I was wondering if this is applicable to the grey import market for cars as well. My understanding is they have effectively made it illegal to import goods from outside the EU for sale inside the EU without the manufacturers consent - so presumably Subaru/Mitsubishi etc. can now put a stop to the grey channels?

Not really.
Most grey imports are done by the (sort of) personal import route.
If they stopped those types of imports, it would also be (illegal)? to go to America, buy a pair of Levi's and bring them (import them) home???

The EU is about the common market inside europe. Articles 30 to 32 govern the free movement of goods people and mney inside europe, but this ruling is relating to people bringing products into the eu from outside.
