Default You know you are getting old when........

........You do a 430 mile round trip in youre WRX PPP and don't once go above 3000rpm, in an attempt to actually return decent MPG for once.

Newcastle return..........400 miles on 50 litres..............34mpg average.

Oh dear, oh dear. I feel dirty!

Cool

Good advice Mad Scientist!

I'm picking up my JDM on Wednesday from Scotland, and will be driving very economically back to London, 450 miles! So I should stay around 3000 rpm in 6th, and keep my fingers crossed. I plan to stop for refuelling half way, which is around the Carnforth/Wigan area. And the reason I'll be taking it easy has nothing to with me getting old, but rather with how vulnerable my wallet is feeling and has been for a while!!

Default 34mpg?

I've had my 02 ppp wrx for about a week now and on a 60 mile round trip to work i'm getting about 27mpg and most of the time i dont go above 3k rpm purely for the fact that in traffic i'm not getting above 50mph. Of course when the road opens up i do get to go above 3k . 24mpg round town though!

I have more than made up for this today round and about Derbyshire! Safe in the knowledge that any petrol saved going to Newcastle is now floating around the country air and poisoning squirels!

For anyone really interested in the figures:

I did 401.2 miles on 53.43 litres of V Power at a cost of £50.71

Thats 12.634p/mile and 34.13mpg!!!

We've got a Prius pool car at work. I normally see how bad I can get the fuel consumption on a trip
People always seem suprised to see a Prius being thrashed or cornering on it's door handles

Blimey, you could almost convice yourself that the Scooby was economical with those figures.

Each time I get on a long motorway journey, I tell myself I wont put my foot down and light the VF35; it pointless and expensive and you make nearly as good progress doing a steady 70 in the 1st lane.

Then an overtaking slot comes up and

Whooooooosh........goes the turbo.......and fuel needle!!!

343miles to a full tank of tesco 99 ron about 2 1/2 months ago from north walers to gloucester and back. I was quite impressed with myself then, especially as its all through the twisties

Did let myself go at one point tho when a lotus elise was nibbling at my back bumper, he soon stepped back when i took a roundabout at 70 side stepping....lol
