Unhappy is something badly wrong??

i have a knocking/banging under my car. it comes from around the front footwell, if i am in the passenger seat the knock is felt more on my right foot than my left. it can be felt from the drivers seat but not as much as your feet are on the pedals. so its central i think. it only happens on de-acceleration. it can be heard as well.

anyone?

when my clutch was changed the gearbox bolts were a problem from what i can remember and dowels were used when it was put back. i was wondering if it could be the gearbox and a dowel has come out

on a brighter note i have just assisted in changing my front brake discs, i did the nearside one all on my own

also i had bought a new clutch cable and when i took the air filter cover of the problem was obvious, the nuts on the top of the cable were very loose. no new cable needed, now my clutch is like new again

Hi sarasquares

Id have to agree with dave..
If you clutch cable bolts were loose, it might be time to check the rest, esp, mountings etc, might have been a hurried job that was done on your scoob, ie gear box/clutch...?

when i had the clutch changed it was done by a friend and when the car came back there was a massive clonking under my feet, the gear box was loose. it is a similar noise now but not as loud. i spose the dowels might not be very secure. so its possibly engine mounts or gearbox then?

i hope thats all it is

Thumbs up

Be careful the knock might be coming from the front of the Diff. Check the oil in the diff where the drive shaft enters just in case. Look for some fresh oil around the area. It might also be the back of the manifold. I would get it checked mate.

If the dowels are loose then the whole gearbox would be falling out.

PMSL the dowels are just like mfi ones that hold your flat pack together, only made of steel and not wood.
There are two of them, one on either side of the gearbox, just to help locate it before bolting it up. If the bolts are tight, the dowels cannot be loose.

i was on the understanding that there wasnt any bolts because they were knackered and dowels were used instead, can this be right?

The gearbox is held on by bolts not dowels.
The dowels are only for location.

You got it wrong

I think this threads going a bit Pete Tong.

Anyway... check the main engine stay bar at the top of the gearbox under the intercooler.
