Default What's the most stupid thing you've done to your car?

Well I had a squeek coming from under the bonnet. I was told by a reputable specialist that it was the pipe that runs from the air-con condenser. So when the squeek got louder I pushed it up or down and it seemed to get better. A few days ago the squeek was getting quite loud again so I pushed the pipe down a bit, and pssssssssssssssst air con gas everywhere

Only £200 for a a new pipe and re-gassing .

Funniest thing, it wasn't even the pipe causing the squeek, it was an engine mount

Now I have to say feel like a right bell end.

I reversed my first car into a lampost...outside my own house.. Dad asked what happend to it so i said someone must have reversed into it.

He said 'So why is there blue paint on the lampost outside the house?'

Rolled backwards at less than walking speed whilst looking forwards and met a high kerb and tree. Mud flap bracket bent into a pretzel shape almost pulling the rear spat off along with the bumper which pulled through (and broke) the main clip hole. Had to go and see the lads at API with all the bits hanging off and the tyre rubbing the flap! Couldn't even muster up a good story for the damage... Felt like a total Muppet and to be fair I was doing such a dumb a$$ thing.

Jammed wastegate shut, by-passed fuel defender, no other mods, boosted to 50% off the guage(red) in Saab 9000 2.3 full pressure turbo.
Wanted to see what would happen(wheelspin in 4th at 90+) as it boosted wildly.
Lasted approx 1500mls then melted the splines on turbo and spat them down exhaust, great while it lasted.

Had a complete spare car with gubbed g/box. and better engine. We then changed the turbo over and drove the car a further 15,000 mls. Stupid but fun!!

i was reversing up the curb outside ace cafe, as i had done a few times before, when i heard this nasty snapping sound!
I had run over my mud flap, destroying my spat and ripping the flap and spat off the bumper! GUTTED!

Parked in Homebase to get £2.00 worth of screws.
Reversed out, car made a few "odd" noises and resisted.
I assumed it was the handbrake binding, so gave it a few revs and bounced the clutch (as you do), cue horrible crumpling noises.

I'd parked too close to a high kerb. My assumption nearly ripped the front bumper off as I reversed out. Had to drive home with the bumper secured with tie wraps.

Or....

Bought AX GT, noticed bonnet catch and lever hadn't been lubed. Mental note made to WD40 or grease it but didn't get around to it before it blew up in the air at 40 mph.... Should have had some backbone and sued the garage as I'd only bought it that week but in the end felt too much of a tw@t as I'd not done it either.

What about the guy in the bmw m3 that dropped the oil cap in the engine bay at the garage so used a sock to cover it up and get him home but it got sucked in and wrapped around the crankshaft or camshaft! Thats got to be the best ever!

entering a carpark in my first car. The car park was downhill, so I turned off my ignition to save fuel (was only 17 then on **** wage) and then as I tried to turn the wheel, the steering locked resulting in me rear ending a bmw. Funnily the BMW had a scratch whilst I needed a new bonnet, bumper and front crossmember and radiator!! poxy astra's

Was changing a squeakey starter on my Mk2 GTi. Got the bolt most of the way out, it get stiffer, so I resort to hammer and chisel.
BOSH! out comes bolt.

CLANG goes engine as it rotates forward on the two remaining mounts. Only stopped rotating completely by the exhaust manifold!!!!!!

Yes. The starter is connected to the chassis and acts as a engine mount

Unlocked security post on drive, got into beach buggy and drove straight into post cracking the bonnet - as I'd unlocked, but didn't retract the post.

I don't believe I'm admitting that one!!!!!!!!

Reversed into a lamp post at work last year, i had parked there hundreds of times before, i even stood next to the lamp post when putting my labtop into the boot

started the car looked in the rear mirror, ah looks clear, start to reverse and i hit the lamp post, new rear bumper required, i couldnt see the lamp post in the rear mirror or the side mirrors because it was in the blind angle but i knew it was there because i stood next to it 20 seconds earlier doh!

my mind was somewhere else... but damn gutted after an incident like that

Reversing my Rover 214 out of a parking space one night, as I was turning the car whilst reversing it suddenly jolted, thought I had hit the back of the car I had parked next to, so got out had a look and there was about a 2 inch gap between us (hers the really stupid bit)I got back in my car and tried reversing again only for my car to judder violently again with a nasty crunch noise this time.
Basically I had managed to get my front bumpers left side air vent over the other cars tow bar and got stuck , had to get the owner of the other car out of the gym to help un hook it,luckily his car wasn't damaged and we had a good laugh about it.

Reversing back up a one way street to a car parking space (tried to find one nearer the end of the road)

Police car appears, I realise the reversing is not good idea, so attempt to pull into the kerb, and go straight into a lamp post.

The policeman then proceeds to give me a lecture, with all the occupants of the restaurant across the road laughing.
