Default Strut brace - 06 STI

Fitted a titanium strut brace to my 06 STI (uK) yesterday - what a transformation to the handling!

The turn in is so much sharper and the steering is heavier but in a good way!

I've always thought the steering was too light and lacking some feel on the new age cars but this has definetly solved the problem!

The strut brace is from an 06 STI spec C and cost me £115 from ebay!!

I've spent some cash on mods in the past but this is definetly the best buy so far!

Must be a cost issue for Subrau UK not fitting them as standard!!

Prodrive springs next with the fast road geometry settings should really finsih it off!

It was a one off sale, although there are usually a few strut braces floating around on ebay.

I would go for the OEM STI titanium or carbon version though!

Easy to fit, just need a socket!

Hi There

Ive been thinking about getting a SB for my 06 Sti but how does it make the steering heavier? I agree the steering is light on the 06's but just wondering how a SB can correct this effect.

All good if it does though!!

Not really sure why the steering is heavier Neill but it's a definite improvement on the original car!

Any techy's on here that can explain why?

The general opinion since the introduction of the new-age chassis is that it is so rigid that the effect additional bracing is virtually imperceivable until other significant suspension mods have been fitted to substantailly stiffen things up to a point where enough load is transfered through the chassis to cause any flex. I fitted one to my 03 WRX and couldn't feel any effect. However, fitting the Whiteline 22mm rear ARB on its stiffest setting gave much better turn-in with reduced understeer. A geometry set-up by the guy whom trains Williams F1 technicians, along with AST coilovers gave the ultimate driving experience, allied to by far the biggest handling mod I've ever purchased, professional driver training from a variety of sources from Police Pursuit drivers to International Rally drivers. If you are happy with your purchase then great, but I do hope you are not just experiencing placebo to justify the price.

It was definitely not some form of placebo effect Corradoboy! The steering is noticeably heavier than before and the turn in is so much sharper with less understeer!

If the new age chassis is so rigid then why fit the strut braces to the 06 STI spec C's as standard?

Anybody?

Spec C's have uprated suspension and are in no way a standard car. The effect on steering shouldn't be noticeable except at high speed under heavy loading. If it is noticeable at low speed I would have concerns over the structural integrity of the car.

FYI, the new-age was quoted at launch as being some 200% more rigid than the outgoing classic chassis design.

Spec C's also have seam welded strut towers for increased rigidity and strength.

Maybe the 06 cars are not as rigid hence the inclusion on the 06 STI spec C?

Any other MY06 members experienced similar effects of adding a front SB?
