Cool Powerengineering remap today!

Im off for a remap today on my MY03 Sti with prodrive exhaust parts and uprated fuel pump!. I cant comprehend how much difference about 70-80 bhp is going to make! Anyone used Powerengineering??

Think you might be a little optimistic in your gains of 70-80bhp I'm afraid..! At the end of the day it'll drive a whole lot better and feel quicker for it, don't get too concerned with figures.. The old 'bum' dyno will tell you how quick it is..

Let us know how you get on..

Was it PPP to start with? If so,I think you are being VERY optimistic! If it's not PPP then you might get a bit closer! I had my 03 STi PPP re-mapped at TSL, so same as you'll get basically - ie retained the PPP exhaust. It'll be interesting to see what it came off the rollers with. Keep us posted?

Thumbs up OK I was too optimistic!!!

You were right guys. MY final figure was 302bhp at 6160rpm and 330lbs of torque.
Iainn at power was a real pleasure to do business with. My car had been previously mapped and then had it taken off. He easily spotted that it was really overboosting and that my centre section was strangling the system. So my price came down to £250 for the remap and I had one of there centre sections fitted.
He expected to be able to get nearer to 320bhp but my car is just one of those that no matter what he tried it would not give anymore than 302bhp.
All the figures were spot on and there was no reason for it!!
I have the prodrive cat, decat pipe, decat centre section and prodrive back box, uprated fule pump and a uprated panel filter so not sure why it would only go to 302bhp!!! any ideas??
i will say it is better to drive now and more responsive and a better power band. Iainn Ball was spot on and to see him sat in my scooby with a stethescope was interesting.

The BHP is certainly low for a bespoke map, but the torque figure looks very good? That's why it's nicer to drive. People get hung up on bhp figures when a good torque curve is what you need for the road.
Little confused as to the centre section "strangling" the power. The PPP exhaust consists of a high flow cat d/pipe, de-catted centre, original resonator section and the back box, so where's the strangling taking place? The resonator shouldn't - it's straight through. What actual part of the "centre" section was replaced?
JohnD

PS The "stethascope" was to monitor det.

It's the 330lb/ft of torque that i'd be happy with. A near 25% increase in torque is much more noticable than the same increase in bhp.

I also find that some STi 's won't make more than 300bhp unless you change the headers...I find that with a decent set of headers and a decat that 340 - 350 comes up quite easily...So don't be too dissapointed just make with the dosh for the next mods....lol

in powerengineering's opinion the centre section was restricting the flow and once i replaced it another 8-10 bhp was gained!! It looks very much like a cat!! The power curve is excellent now so i am happy. its more responsive low down too and it pulls in 6th very nicely!!

Mine has the same mods MY02 STi, remapped at WRC Tech and got 313 bhp/ 320 lbs, just shows the difference in numbers for different cars.

My 05 WRX made 348x333 after last round of mods..!

Seriously though, don't get too worried about headline figures as there are to many variables for them to really mean anything..! It's down to how it feels via the bum dyno that counts. Now the shape of the dyno plot can be useful, this will give a truer indication of real world performance..

That'll be the resonator. Hmm! Looks like we're back on the resistance of the resonator question again? Has anyone proof (other than siggy's) that there are benefits to be gained by its removal?

I watched the screen power curve before and after the resonator removal and it defo increased the power run by 8-10 bhp. I was surprised but there you go.
what can I do to the car next without getting silly???

I would consider this if I thought the noise level does not increase too much.
siggy - How noisier is the car now?
