Buying a Sport after owning a Turbo!
Hi All
I wrote my 1996 turbo off last november i think it was and that took my no claims down to 1 year
So i thought i would go the sensible route and buy a Merc A Class tdi,had that few a couple of months and decided i was sick of riding my Husqvarna on the road and wanted a bigger bike
So i part exchanged the A Class for a escort GTI that ive always wanted when i was younger, which that meant i had spare money to buy a bike that ive always wanted a Suzuki TL1000s
The Escort is an ok car but that is it and the Suzuki is superb but just dont get out on it much probabley once every 2 week and my work is only 5 minutes away from me so it isnt worth using it for that.
Now i want another impreza bad so what do i do-
1.Part ex my escort and buy a sport and keep my bikes.
2.Sell the bikes and the escort and buy a turbo.
The 1st option would be sensible until i built some no claims up,but would i be happy
Any info would be a great help
Cheers
Andy

i think you are better of with a turbo as i suspect a sport isnt going to be much greater than the GTi. you hardly ever use the bike so it makes sense to sell the lot and go for a turbo...just don't go and write it off again tho

Better swapping the Escort for a pre-Si/Gti model such as the XR3(130) or RS2000 very different cars and more fun than an Impreza sport, that is if you can cope with the rusty rear arches

Change your name and sex to a girl, most insurance companies give females an introductory discount rate of up to 30%, then get the turbo back all you have lost then is your genitals!

If you have a missus. Insure the car via Sheila's Wheels (they are competetive btw). And have yourself as a named driver.
My mum did this with her partner's car and saved a few bob doing so
(helps if the car is registered in your missus's name btw).

cheeers for all your replies
d5hof - I went around an S bend near work to fast for the road condition, must have been some diesel on the road or somert and slid off and both wheels hit the kurb
Shark Man - I love the classic impreza shape so wouldnt really buy a sport for the performance only for the looks,my girlfriend hasnt passed her test yet infact she hasnt even sent off for her provisional or that would have been a good idea
EOEUMC - That does make sense and your probabley right but i am impatient and fancy a change from the escort allthough it never lets me down and runs great
mollymai - I love imprezas but not enough to lose my weapon lol

Andy,
Have recently found out that Direct Line will honour you no claims bonus that youve earned on your bike
I called them to get a quote to insure my son on my Micra (2nd car) and they gave me 60% off for my 4 yrs no claims on a bike, so might be worth trying them if you can get yourself a nice un modded classic

HI
I have owned two sports and a wrx , so heres the run down
Pros for Sport :
MUCH cheaper insurance
SLIGHTLY less fuel bills
SAME looks and can be easily modded to 200bhp + and turbo looks
Easier to service if you do it yourself and cheaper for parts
GREAT grip levels
NOT many people know the difference
Cons of Sport :
Nowhere near the foot down fun if u get into a battle
You know its the smaller brother
NO Aircon like wrx
I have to say I would happily own either again depending on the circumstances at the time , so make the decision based on your circumstances , scoobies hold there values well , trust me ..

IIRC, John Felstead had one and would go on meets where he would keep up with turbos. He is a good driver though (done many motorsport activities I think )
Oh, this is a good few years ago now though.
Just depends on how much you want that shove in the back from the turbo?
