any bass heads out there???
hi guys,
im trying to get a decent ICE install in my 95 wrx import.
i've got a 12" JBL 1000w sub. and an alpine V12 amp, along with a sony x-plode head unit....only thing is i still cant quite get that kinda punchy bass that hurts your chest after a while!!
took it to a garage to have a play around with the amp, as its digital i wasn't sure of all the settings, and the bloke said that the way the boot is enclosed on the impreza, stops you from getting serious bass?? does this sound right?
anyone else got a digitial V12 amp that know's how to set 'em up?!!

I have 2x 12" JL Audio 12W3's running 2ohm fed by a Directed 1100d monoblock amp supplying 750W RMS @ 2ohm. This amp was running 4x12W3's previously but I had to downsize as I couldn't get the box in my scoob . The 4x sub box was awesome.....you could feel your voice box and eyeballs vibrate and it would set car alarms off quite easily if I had it cranked . The 2 subs I am running now is a nice compromise but obviously lacks the punch it had previously.

I have that cruddy computerized amp. It's ok but I'd rather just have a **** to turn up to max. The computer set up business is just strange.

hey i have a simular set up to you by the sound of it but i have 2 pioneers 1000wat 12 inch subs and all i have running them is a 600wat kenwood amp off a pioneer head unit and mine sounds just right
i have dynamated the roof of my boot (basically the tailgate)
on my speaker enclosure i have put a hole about 5 inch diameter in the top of one side of the enclosure over one sub and i have left the other side closed
my enlcosure is a double box but has two sperate compartments
mine sounds really nice has a nice punch and you can also still hear the engine.
hope this helps

nice one cheers fella - i think the amp still needs fiddling - its not too bad if you turn the "loud on" at the headunit - but the sound proofing sounds a good idea!

Try turning the sub level up on the head unit
Ive only got a 600w amp and a 1000w(4oorms) and I get a nice kick in the chest.
Its not really a sealed boot as its only the back seats like in most cars.
But make sure the sub is facing the rear of the car too as if its pointing to the front you don't really get much bass at the front, its more in the back

If youre after punchy bass ya should have bought a 10in sub, personally if youre after hard bass would recommend mtx subs, also a smaller sub box will make it more punchy though obviously sub boxes are tuned(sized) to a frequency thats a compromise generally between depth and punch so they`ll play ok on a wider variety of music. With the amp would set the low pass x-over at around 80hz if its a 2 channel amp running bridged mode should be 1+2 ie bridged then set gain accordingly,Not to sure though on controls on the new v12`s which model is it???not even sure if theres still centre frequency adjustment and Q(bandwidth)
