Do you have to register the car in the UK? I was under the impression that you ran US-legal cars which carried US registration plates (assuming that youre a US serviceman)? A fog light wont be necessary if that is the case. Youll need to either replace or modify your headlamps though; to force them to dip to the left hand kerb. Please dont gloat about your cheap petrol.....

You can have the rear fog fitted into the light cluster and a button fitted on the dash, but you dont need front fogs, just a rear one by law due to our wonderful climate.

US petrol is not cheap in anyway, might be cheaper than the UK....but other countries have trully cheap petrol... ie: Venezuela £1.50 for a 50 litre fill up....or the equivalent of 2p/litre and that is the most expensive grade (98 US equivalent octane unleaded)

now that is worth gloating about ken what I mean?

Place to live - There's a lovely old farm building just right for conversion to a house, quite close to Lakenheath, in fact it's very close to Lakenheath.

It's just at the western end of the runway under the flightpath. Those F15's hardly make a noise when they take off, and they are right up to about 100 feet by the time they go overhead with the "burner" still lit. You can hardly hear them !!

How do you go about getting a wrx over here - Does Uncle Sam find room on a Globemaster or C5??

Too many left hand drive cars down there. Sell your car in the States, buy a "proper" one over here, with right hand drive, and you can see clearly when trying to overtake, instead of having to pull out half way across the road to see past the car in front.

Good luck with your house hunting.

Thetford/Brandon are both nice, if your into your mountain biking then Thetford forest is pretty cool. To be honest there's not really any ghetto in either Norfolk or Suffolk, the closest you'll get is either Norwich or Ipswich, theres ****e parts of both them but you'll not be near the council estates so you'll be fine. Nice part of the world M8

If youre running with US registration plates then all you will need to do is adapt your headlamps for left-handed dipping then (easy with a self-adhesive patch). Mention of fog lamps and such is spurious.

To the person who said that US fuel prices are not low... 'Low' is a subjective term, but they pay about half of what we pay.

The fuel is cheaper in America, lets face it, how on earth would they be able to run all those beasts with 5.7's and over
I vouch for the problem with left hand drive in the UK I drive a Limo as a job and you can't really see past the car/lorry in front, let alone to overtake!

Hey USAF !

Won't you find that your steering wheel's on the wrong side ?!

Seriously, given the difference in car prices I think you're right to bring it over. Simon (GC8) is right. You need to adjust the headlights so you don't blind the Brits ! This can be done with black stickers over part of the lights.
Reckon there is a need for a foglight, legally or not !

Anyway, have a great time over here, I'm sure our lasses will fall for your accent (I know ours goes down well in California )

The only mod I would do is put the steering wheel on the right side of the car LOL

Your going to find another Scooby owner on the air base that has had his car shipped over he does post on here on occasion I believe

The trick with the fog light fitted under the rear bumper on a bracket is simply to swivel it up out of sight when it is not needed.

I'm not too far away. I would avoid Mildenhall, Lakenheath, Thetford, Red Lodge, Barton Mills areas.

Newmarket seems quite popular but not the bit near the A14/A142 junction. Try and find a village south of the A14 for a pleasant location.

Scoob meets in Fen Ditton/Cambridge last tuesday of every month - there was another USAF person there with a 2.5RS. You will find that Fen Ditton is easy to find just off the A14 and that it is 25/30 mins from the bases max.

See you soon!
