if your selling to buy/rent a house then you want to get the cheapest car to run and buy you can get! keep it for 12months and then you might be able to get another scoob by then! no point spending decent money on a car you wont really want ie golf, 172 etc, just get a diesel 306 or somthing like that and save for another scoob!

Naturally I'm not aware of your circumstances but would suggest a couple of things.
If you're fleeing the parental nest and looking to set up home elsewhere for the first time then you may find a calculator very useful. Don't think about getting rid of the Impreza until you've done plenty of sums. With the cost(s) of moving, furniture, and other accessories you may find you end up consolidating a debt or two whilst you settle in and grow roots during the first couple of years. Quite possibly you may find selling the Scoob' and getting something 'similar' doesn't help you much financially.
It's never wise to settle debt(s) with debt but can you see where I'm coming from..? If you had some kind of start-up loan you may find keeping the Scoob' is possible. Alternatively, look for a very very cheap runabout that will cost you next to nothing (although this may cause it to be old or worn out which might bite you on the bum with repairs.)
Just my opinion, but the very best of luck to you.
Jonts.

The renault 19 16v is a good car but dont get it, i spent more money on 2 years owning one of those than all my cars put together. Avoid. Still love them though.

Why dont you save money and get two cars - seriously.
i bought a clapped out 205 1.1 on here for 50 quid and i use it to and from work. it saves me 40 quid a week in juice alone and i just use the Scoob (mostly) at weekends now.
Tax is 100 quid a year, insurance is 200 quid but the fuel savings alone more than pay for it.

Depends if you need a car for everyday use (to work) or just weekend driving (to mates or fun).
If the latter, go for something like a 205 GTI, great fun, cheap. Age may mean some reliability issues hence why it depends on what you use it for.

I would consider several options. I don't know your personal circumstances, but the Golf TDI suggestion is good. 5-7k buys you what you need. The other suggestion is a sports ****ter, which is a good idea too, but could end up costing you lots. A hot hatch [172, 106 gti etc] will be cheaper than a scoob, but still a lot of ££££ in all other area's. For headache free motoring my local VW dealer is doing a 1.2 polo for £99 deposit £99 / month for 3 years then give it back. Not always everyone's favourite way of buying, but you know where you are with your cash and this car will cost you nothing to run. Some front tyres and a couple of services throughout the duration and 40mpg motoring.
That is what I would consider if I was moving out all over again
Good luck
