Default coolant bottle

was wondering if anybody could help me out was wondering why the coolant bottle was seperate from the radiator bottle.

The bottle at the side of the radiator is to contain ant coolant expelled due to expansion of the coolant due to the heat. Most cars do have it as one unit but like a number of items on a Subaru they have gone their own route. If it is working ok don't worry.

so do I just pour th ecoolant in the plastic bottle and fill th eradiotor resivour with water

No, you fill both with antifreeze mixed with water 50:50.

The one on top of engine is the header tank..that fills the radiator and cooling system (eventually ). And is what you use to inspect the coolant levels in the system

The plastic one to the right of the engine bay is the expansion tank which prevents any excess pissing all over the ground. It will not fill up the cooling system or radiator.

So why does the expansion tank have LOW and FULL levels marked on it? The handbook says to check your coolant level here.
