Question

I have a MY00 and the radio/cassette when the front panel is removed flashes a red light ... does this mean that if I remove the radio to replace it the alarm will sound??? or is it NOT connected to the alarm circuit?? any help??
Also what is the best way to get dents out of the bodywork .. anyone know of any DIY way??

Pete,

All depends on the radio unit in question, some are alarmed, so are just a flashing light. Maybe read the manual, if you have one.

DIY dent removal, wouldn't recommend it. Very very easy to make it much worse than before, i.e. minor dent into a creased panel. I would pay a man, the DentMaster type guys are good. Our local DentsAway man is a God

Cheers

Thanks Ian - I have a manual - but cannot see any reference to whether the radio unit is alarmed into the cars system.
I would assume that it must be possible but maybe there are wires to connect to fool the system into thinking the radio is still in place?
Any other advise?

Sorry cant say for sure but with my pioneer P88r you can connect to door triggers (interior light) which will then make it work like an alarm system although rather crude. Is there any mention in the instruction booklet for alarm side of things or another way could be to leave face on whilst you remove unit from car as i dont think alarm system would be armed this way, also thinking about it i would not have though that this would be connected to main alarm as if some thieving G1T nicked stereo alarm would continue to go rendering car useless.

Simon, yeah that reminds me, Pete, some Pioneers have a built in alarm. If connected to the door triggers and the face plate is missing the internal alarm goes ape if you try to pull it out.

Is it a Pionner ?

There again, I used to have a unit in my Alfa (cannot remember make) that just had a red flashing light when the face plate was removed. But that is all it did.

Cheers

I removed my PHILIPS system, the red light is a warning only. I put a SONY CD player in no patch lead required. An extra earth was also on the PHILIPS not needed.

If your head unit is the standard Philips one, the flashing LED is just an anti-theft deterrent/warning light, and can be switched on or off by pressing the unit's on/off button when the removeable panel is out.

Right - I can take it out without fear ... but does it have a standard ISO connector so that any modern unit can simply slot in and are the speakers up to a better unit

ps. what is the wattage of the standard unit? 4 x watt??

Thanks to all

Not sure about the connectors, but as for output the standard system is 4 x 35 watts - I think it says that on the cassette flap?

Pete,

The Stereo does indeed use an ISO connector so you will be able to easily pull the two plugs out of the back of the stereo and plug them into your new one.

As for the speakers they are a little poor to be honest and you will notice it more when you connect up a decent head unit.
