knocking noise

Default knocking noise

Started my car from cold this morning (MY95) and was surprised to hear a knocking noise it only lasted 3 seconds or so then went, oil pressure was normal and there was no drop in performance...any ideas?

the oil was cold, its not uncommon, especially on old engines..

tappets? fine as long as noise goes when engine warm
