V Power.....Jury out?
Hello people!
My Scoob has only ever run on Optimax since new.
I put a tankful of V Power in yesterday from almost empty and I'm really not sure there I can tell a terrific difference after 150 miles of mixed driving. The engine seems a little quieter but it doesn't seem to pull much stronger if at all.
Here's a conspiracy theory for you. Do you suppose that Shell reduced the RON of Optimax gradually over the last 3 months to make the new stuff look good?
I'm still not convinced. Will the ECU respond immediately to enhanced fuel. I know if you put in normal UL it can take a few tanks of SUL to settle the ECU down again.
Comments please!

i beg to differ, filled up with v-power the other day and although the performance did not feel any better, the tunes coming through my stereo were much improved along with my horn sounding much deeper..

there is so many thick people out there that do not have a clue what higher ron fuels do to cars, and how to take advantage of them.

The only difference I've seen is price. Last time I filled up with optimax it was 100.4p. Filled up today with Vpower it was 98.9p. That was at the same garage.

BUT, Optimax went from 104.9 to 99p a litre here in 2 days! If that means the new stuff is 5p a litre cheaper then WOW..... I fear it's down to the price of crude dropping though!

I think Vpower is the dogs nadgers.
Even having experienced it for around five tankfuls now the difference in performance has not yet worn off.
Excellent consideringt the tiny difference in RON - far better than Tesco 99 which I was using.

PS No flying pigs here - they are all running BP Ultimate

My scoob feels far more responsive and accelerates sharper now, but I'm still using Optimax - suspect its got more to do with 20C temperatures and light rain as opposed to the high 20/low 30C temperatures we've had over the summer.

I agree with gareth. You cannot possibly tell .4 difference. The only way to measure this would be in an environmentally controlled engine dyno booth. The difference in temperature from day to day has a much bigger difference on the performance of your car. Even the change in temps from morning to lunch time affects how much power you are making.

I'd guess UK cars will see no noticable difference, enless you map the car to match the fuel.
It will be the import cars, which were designed for 99/100 RON fuel which will see gains.

Taking from this you could also *assume* that VPower tolerances may well include readings that are under or over the quoted 99RON (or again as close to being) if a similar survey is committed. So potentially on times VPower could be into the 100RON bracket, or at the other end of the scale into the 98RON bracket.
