I am seriously tempted to get the pressure washer out and give my cars a good wash tonight!!

I'm pissed off driving around in mucky metal!!

Are you all goodie, goodies and wash with watering can and bucket?? Or are you cavaliers and hosepipe them??

What are you on about?

Plug in pressure washer. Sponge. Rinse. Wash off with clean water. Towel dry to buff up the shine.

Or is there a secret to washing your car you are about to endow us with?

One of my neighbours washes his car with rain water which he stores up, that must make the thing even more filthy all that pollution, acid rain, dust etc?????

Do you think I should I tell him that our area is not effected by a ban

So what is the etiquette of cleaning a car properly then?

I'm afraid I use hosepipe, bucket of soapy stuff, rinse and then chamois.

Is there another way?!?

Pressure washers aren't part of the hosepipe ban anyway and it used to say so on Southern Water's website. They've now removed it, so I rang and asked what the situation is - they basically said that they've taken legal advice and they think they are banned, but are not sure! Hardly a sound legal basis for prosecution, so go ahead and use it, they hardly use any water anyway.

I use a hosepipe to loosen the dirt, then a bucket of soapy water and a sponge (real sponge that is) to clean it (starting with the roof and working down), then do the wheels with the remaining soapy water and a different sponge. Then hose off and chamois down using clean warm water, opening doors and drying the sills last of all.

That's how my dad taught me to do it!

A 'friend' of mine uses water from a water-butt, which is obviously rain water, and never ever gets filled up with water from a hose pipe.

The local Kosovans are very good, and only cost £6 for a full outside clean

That's only their interpretation of the law, the truth is that they are only guessing. I'd be willing to bet that they wouldn't risk a prosecution. Anyway, I'm not in the Thames Water area

Wash with lambswool washmit/microfibre wash mit (sponges trap grit and dirt which scratches paint) and a decent car shampoo such as Meguairs.

Dry with an old towel washed without fabric softener.
