What Oil
Hi, tried doing a search but there was loads of different info so thought it would be easier to ask specifically.
What oil should I be using in a 97 WRX Type RA?
Thanks very much

The answer will be the same on ALL the threads - put in what SUBARU tell you to!!
Look in the owners manual and it will tell you - do NOT listen to any other advice, this is the REAL thing!
Now, lock the thread - thank you!

I don't know, but with his user name suggesting him running a scoob on diesel.. I don't think it would matter what oil is in the sump.
As for a "proppa" answer: 10w40, 15w50, 10w-50, 5w-50, etc. Go for thicker and better quality oil if you drive like a loon, and change it more often.

No rats here!
At the time I join Scoobynet I had a Legacy Turbo that I was smoking about in while I was importing a Corvette from the states. Amazingly (it only cost £900) nothing went wrong with it in the short time I had it so no need to ask any questions.
At the weekend I took a Type RA in part ex for a car I was selling. Just thought I would find out what oil I should use going forward.
Thanks for the info, any particular brands to avoid or to go for? I'll try looking in the handbook but its in Japanese.
As for Diesel Power... bit of a Prodigy fan

What is stated in Pete's Bible (Subaru Handbook), is the MINIMUM specification.
Not everyone wants to spend mega bucks on their cars.
Not everyone drives like 'Miss Daisy', and therefore may have different service requirments.
I have now used Mobil 1 15w50 in both my old sti 4 (12000 miles = 4 x oil changes) and now my UK Turbo MY99. Have had no engine problems, MPG is good, power is good, cold start engine noise is good etc etc.
I have also never heard anyone having engine trouble and then blaming it on the quality oil!

I curious to see what you think about this Peter..... Im about to buy 25 litres of superb quality Fuchs/Silkolene 5-40w fully synthetic (ester; not hydro-cracked mineral oil pretending to be 'synthetic') and itll work out at just a shade over £15 per oil change. Would you still stick with Comma mineral based oil or choose this massively superior oil for the same price?

A 25 litre drum of the SL can be had for £85, equating to about £16 for the averafe 4.5l oil change. I had oilman verify the quality from the above specs and he says it's superb stuff.

You mean I will get banned?? Surely I would be offered a reason for that? Saying Webby has a small ***** cannot warrant a banning .........
