Question STI PPP or not

Hi all,

I own a 2002 STI with PPP which I had fitted when new. I've been looking to change my car and have my eye on one of the last "old shape" STI's, on a 55 plate or 06 plate.

I'm not sure what to do about the PPP. In my opinion, it's been a bit of a pain and particularly in terms of insurance. What are the alternatives..

Cheers

If warranty isn't an issue for you, I wouldn't.

Get a:
Sports cat Down pipe, decat the rest of the exhaust, (port and wrap the headers - optional but a good mod) put a Walbro fuel pump on there. Then get an Ecutek remap by a reputable expert.

This should get you 320bhp and similar torque comfortably! Will cost less than PPP too!

Powerstation do tuning packages that have their own warranties BTW, as do WRC-TEC (sp?) I believe

Ns04

Insurance will be more expensive for the above, compared with PPP,

My Advice would be to find a car with PPP already fitted, Then get a remap(600-700 quid), 330/330 figures are not unheard of, It will transform the car and will be much more insurance friendly.

What problems are there with insuring PPP'd cars over any other modded car?
Reason i ask is i am looking into getting it fitted to my car.
I am with A Plan at the mo so am assuming there wont be a problem, except for the price increase

There is no problem with insurance, I even got mine online with tescos, They had the car listed as an STI PPP, The premium was very good...... But if I had a WR1 the cost would have been £100 cheaper!, I'm not complaining, Ive paid alot more to insure some crap cars!

I am with A-Plan and my 06 Sti PPP was cheaper to insure this year than my 03 Sti Non PPP although there was some negotiating with them.

Hmm, not in my experiance. Most companies have no idea what the PPP is. I'm with Admiral currently and it's down as a ecu and exhaust upgrade. However, this could have changed in the last two years. I have found it costs a few hundred quid extra.

It's a tricky one, a particular subject i've seen many a thread on here over the years. The performance is quite a bit better with the PPP, but I was just wondering if it was really worth the hassle. Perhaps just a full decat exhaust would suffice.

I need to convince the wife about buying a new car first

Red face

This may burn me down in flames, but can you run a non ppp on normal unleaded. The reason I ask, is that sometimes its a right pain having to find a garage with super.
