Default Chucking up

How much **** gets chucked out the back when you floor it in your Scoob?

Mine seems to be chucking up a lot. Is this normal?

Ah, Mr. Rawle.

He's keen to see me downsize my exhaust. Reckons I'll gain a few more ponies out of it!

Car's using a lot of oil too. Again quite normal for such an engine??

PS. Loving this slightly cooler weather!

some do use oil, some dont....mine doesnt seem to, but someone else i know has to top it up all the time! very inconvenient!!

Interesting about the downsize of the exhaust, as mine is 3.5" so can only assume yours is too?

Yes, 3.5".

Reckons I'm not getting the back pressure for the turbo to run at optimum efficiency.

What boost you running btw? I'm on just over 1.5 bar.

Woohoooo, my 100th post!

What grade oil should I be using in my 2.5?

The mechanic at API couldn't remember whether he stuck 5-50 or 20-50 in!!

normally bob recommends motul 15w50, i normally use that although i have millers 10w60 in there at the mo as i thought that the extra high heat protection for track use may be a wise idea.

Silkolene Pro R 15w-50 any good?

Got 5 litres of that left over from my e30 M3 days!

I'm still paranoid about the about of **** coming out the back when I floor it. That coupled with the fact that I've now put a litre of oil in the last 2-3 weeks (say 500-600 miles) is concerning me a bit.

i guess if its a built engine then its touch and go as to how well everything seals when its run in.....

as i say mine doesnt appear to use much oil at all, i top it up after track use, but on normal road milage its fine

I guess the silkolene would be ok, as long as its fully synthetic.

I think I'll just take it a bit easy for the time being and see how things are when its run in some more.

Cheers.

My T25 engine has done about 5k miles, and uses a fair bit of oil, and I also get lots of smoke when I put my foot down, it nothing to worry about (or so I'm told)

My Sti chucks muck out the catch can breather when the catch can gets full, can't recall wether you have catch can or not but if you do check if it needs emptying. Oil consumption should get better with some miles and heavier use (you have only just run it in). Check with David (he's still away I think) when he comes back. Neils turbo is a fair bit smaller than yours.

cheers

Hi Bob, thanks for pitching in.

Yes, Dave sold me a catch can but its empty. I'm getting increasingly concerned with whats coming out the exhaust, I just think its too much. I pulled out of a junction this morning - could only have been 3000-3500 revs and when I looked in my mirror there was a cloud of smoke behind me.

Theres nothing on idle, and I assume nothing on low rev driving, it seems as soon as the turbo kicks in (3k??) I get the smoke/****.

When are you next down South? Perhaps we can hook up and I'll get your opinion?

If I lived more local to API I'd just pop in. But I don't.

Its hard to say. By the time its coming out I'm accelerating at what seems to be quicker than the speed of light! Safe to say whatever it is gets dispersed pretty quickly.

I think it might be whiter than I first thought.

I'll get my girlfriend to drive it tonight and I'll follow her in her car to get a better look.

White is normally associated with leaky turbo seals (turbine end), its not running that much boost, once you've eyeballed it yourself let us know.

Well for the second that she put her foot down I would say there is some white present. Now the fact that it is only there on harder accelertion does suggest what you're saying (Bob) could be the case.

Is this something I can check out myself?

Adam.
