Yes some actually use the rear seat belt point

IIRC Harnesses although look cool in certain situations with std reclining seats will give less protection than Standard belts IMHO

Not wanting to start up the recent thread about harnesses, roll-cages and helmets etc. (and apologies for hijacking) but saw an old triumph or similar open-top 'classic' piece of sh*t in the local shell garage which had standard old (reclining?) seats and four-point harnesses.

The seats didn't even have a head-rest or anything, so the upper straps were just resting on the seat tops.

I'm no expert on this sort of thing, but it struck me as being really dodgy...

Why? Theyre dangerous; theyre impractical and youll look stupid. And before you tell me that 'if they were dangerous they wouldnt be fited in rally cars': consider this. When decent restraints are correctly fitted in a properly prepared car, with an FIA cage, proper side mounted competition seats and used in conjunction with an approved helmet; then theyre 'safe'; wihout all of the above theyre a f*cking liability (and so are you driving a car on the road using them).

Thankyou Gary. The reason that theyre so dangerous in a big incident, is that theyre not compliant: ironically that the very feature that encouraged people to fit them (well; that and to look clever). When youre securely strapped up against the car seat your body cant move; and this is probably what youre looking for..... In a head-on type impact a harness wont actually restrain you any better than the cars original fit seatbelt; but in an incident that involves the monocoque deforming thats a huge liability. When youre strapped to the seat you cant move and you absorb all of the impact until the seat gives way (by which time its likely that youll be f*cked).
