'Red-Top' refers to an STI engine.
The inlet manifold is painted red on these engines, hense the 'Red-Top'.
This was on sti's from MY97 onwards (sept 96).
The sti's before this just had the normal 'steel' colour manifold.

From what i know all STi's have the manifold painted red, which can flake off after timer due to the high temperature, however if you are buying an STi or a Limited Edition model make sure you check the 'Applied Model' code which can be found on the SIDC website in the FAQ.
An STi has hardwearing internals among with extra goodies i.e. quickshift, ic water injection spray, lightweight components etc.
