Default short block?

what is a short block? is the engine in standard cars long block? please shed some light as i am planning an sti engine transplant

The short engine is basically just the block , Pistons etc . I believe the long engine is the whole engine the block, headers ,oil pump,water pump etc. I think this is correct however i am only really learning myself

Yep

A short engine (as its also called) is short of a few items

ie probably the bits you don't need in a rebuild, so you get the block and major components but not the ancilliaries or cylinder heads
