Buying from dock auctions
My brother is looking at getting an Impreza, and was thinking of getting one from the dock auctions.
Condition isn't too important, as i have a big pile of Impreza spares in my garden and is going to be a project for him, but he wants a straight car with a decent engine.
What kind of price could he pick up an early WRX for, saloon or wagon, or is it too much of a chance?

Im still struggling to answer you Gary; I havent ever attended a dock auction (although Ive seen the crap thats been readied for sale).
The difference between a good car and a bad car cant be made up for with a pile of spare bits in the garage though.....
Go and have a look; if it looks ok and it runs ok then its ok..... You could be better off with a reasonable car from a dock auction than a Grade4 car thats been ragged all over since it was imported.
Use a sale that guarantees its odometer readings and be aware that the car has probably had an accident (although itll have been repaired properly; nealy half of the cars of this type sold in Japan have an accident grade of some sort). Recent oil change and cambelt change stickers showing the odometer reading will provide reassurance; beyond that the risks are similar to any other UK auction.

Cheers mate
I have been offered a mint '96 model for about £2500, and can vouch for the history on it. Has done 100k though, but both the previous owners have been in their 50's
Will probably steer him towards this one then, as don't want him paying or a bag of ****e.
