Caught on M69 - What can I expect?
#1
Got caught by traffic car ( Laser ) doing 102 on the M69 this morning.
No excuse - clear road and thought I was doing less but that's what the officer said. Was shocked but clearly not aware of my speed. Very good about it, no nannying at all, most pleasant.
Question is : what can I expect and when would any court case come up ( 1 month, 2, more? ) as he seemed to indicate he had no discretion in this case and would have to refer it.
Because I use my car for work ( Cambridge - Brum most days ) it's going to be a real problem work wise. Have 3 points for an A road last year already.
Thanks,
Dave.

I got let off lightly for 104 on M1 near Barnsley - 3 points, 14 day ban and £90 fine with about £30 costs. Got caught on Sept 19th and court case was mid to late January.

It depends on the magistrate but they will take into consideration the following factors:
1. What the officer puts down in his report of the incident.
2. Whether you need your car for work or other reasons - especially if you are a doctr or something like that.
3. What sort of person you come across as on the day.
Turn up in a suit and state your case carefully. There was a thread about this a week or so ago so have a look.
A friend of mine was recently let off with a 5 point and minor fine after being caught on his bike doing 90+ in a 40 zone A road (and with his girlfriend as pillion). The officer involved gave a good report of the situation and how nobody was in danger and that my friend was repentant and helpful. He is also a doctor which meant that he said that he needed the bike to get to/from work. He also already had 3 points from 2.5 years ago.
Good luck

I use M69 every day and have never seen a police car, although I have heard rummers of an unmarked T5.
After being caught on the A5 in Feburary (3 miles from M69 junction) by an unmarked Scooby, I now have a laser/radar detector (which are legal at present). Seems to work.

Saw the unmarked Scooby which had pulled over another customer on the M69 - seen it loads of times on the M1.
Not a good 'unmarked' car really - has 2 obvious extra white lights ( like reversing lights ) on the boot. It's green, T or V reg I think.
