Question MY98 UK vs MY00 JDM STi version 6 - The differences

Just moved from the former classic to the latter (super-duper-)classic. Have been intrigued by the subtle differences I've noticed that obviously someone in Subaru has decided on and therefore invested money in designing and manufacturing the change. Some of them just seem a huge waste of money.

Does anyone know why they even bothered with some of these changes?

Note: some of these may be MY differences rather than UK vs JDM differences

1) Sti6 has a flare(!) in the passenger footwell that is not in the UK car!

2) The indicators and wiper stalks are swapped round on the Sti6. Why even bother?

3) Sti6 has a double-din stereo slot. UK has a single-din.

4) UK aerial is on the roof. On the Sti its above the rear left wheel.

5) Sti6 has reading lights at the front

6) UK front passenger gets a mirror in the fold down sun-visor. STi6 does not.

7) Sti6 front seat is more adjustable than the UK car.

8) Sti6 has electronic folding wing mirrors the UK car does not.

9) UK car has a bright switch. Sti6 does not.

10) Sti6 has the revs dial and speedo reversed round.

11) UK car has adjustable headlights. STi6 does not.

12) UK car has no rear window wiper. Sti6 does.

Bored today so I'll have a guess at the changes

1) Sti6 has a flare(!) in the passenger footwell that is not in the UK car!

Required by law in Japan, should have been removed when it was shipped to the UK.

2) The indicators and wiper stalks are swapped round on the Sti6. Why even bother?

That's the way they are in Japan, all cars not just Scoobies.

3) Sti6 has a double-din stereo slot. UK has a single-din.

Allows fitmant of really flash (Max Power) ICE system.

4) UK aerial is on the roof. On the Sti its above the rear left wheel.

Allows for electrically retractable aerial, lot of vandalism in Japan

5) Sti6 has reading lights at the front

So does my MY00 UK Classic

6) UK front passenger gets a mirror in the fold down sun-visor. STi6 does not.

Weight saving

7) Sti6 front seat is more adjustable than the UK car.

Not sure, mine goes forwards and back, the base cushion has height adjust for both front and rear of it, and the seat back tilts forwards / backwards. What extra adjustments does yours have

8) Sti6 has electronic folding wing mirrors the UK car does not.

Tight parking spaces in Japan.

9) UK car has a bright switch. Sti6 does not.

Yet another reason not to own an import, no bright switch

10) Sti6 has the revs dial and speedo reversed round.

Quite a few "performance" cars have it this way round, deemed more important to know how many revs the engines is doing rather thatn the speed.

11) UK car has adjustable headlights. STi6 does not.

Weight saving.

12) UK car has no rear window wiper. Sti6 does.

Rains quite a lot in Japan.

I get it. So you light the flare and put it in the tank. If the car doesn't blow up then you are indeed out of fuel. If the car does blow up then it wasn't out of fuel and instead is something more serious (now much more serious). But at least you'll be warm while you wait for assistance.

The flares neednt be removed: I dont know why people perpetuate this. The flare burns brightly, a little like a roman candle and its used in place ot a warning triangle.
