Default MY2006 STi Type UK Dump valve query

I just bought a WRX STi type UK 2006 plate. I ordered a Baileys DV12 direct fit dump valve.

Will this fit the 2006 spec car?

Will there be any stall?
My friend has an eVo that stalls when the dump valve goes off, as the MAF sensor detects more air and kills the car.

Will the dump valve cause some oil to be sprayed around the engine bay (I was reading about such a case on a website)

Please also confirm that there is absolutely no way a dump valve can cause problems in the engine bay?

Whats wrong with the std Dump Valve or BOV that Subaru put on your car as standard. It works and performs perfictly well as it is. Who wants to here that woosh noise eveytime you change gear....There is no reall need for a atmosperic (sp?) one on a standard Impreza engine that has not been moddified. Just leave the Standard one on - quite it best

the problems mainly arise from the VTA dump valve venting the air away from the airflow sensor, so that it thinks the car is running a differnt Air/fuel mix and therefore richens the micture ( so i beleive) not a problem on cars with an aftermarket ECU that uses a differnt airflow metering system, but can cause problems on cars running standard setup

plenty of sdvice on the boards here

Thanks Timmyboy. So what the advice then? Are we saying the 2006 Sti will have a problem or not with the Baileys Dump valve?

what does VTA stand for?

VTA = Vent to atomosphere, i.e. the type the make the whooshing noise.

Standard one fitted by Subaru is recirculating. Herein lies the problem....

The air intake on an Impreza can be thought of as a closed system. Once air has passed the air flow sensor it has been metered by the ECU. When a VTA dumpvalve opens this already metered air is lost rather than fed back into air intake (after the sensor). The ECU assumes the lost air has entered the engine so injects fuel accordingly, except you have lifted off the throttle so now a very rich fuel air mixture enters the cylinders. This can cause lumpy engine running and possibly bore wash (excess fuel passes between pistons and the bore liner and contaminates the oil). Not good!

So stick with the standard fit dump valve and you won't have any problems.

So does a higher flowing air filter have the opposite effect then? Will this also cause problems?

No, this is before the MAF where the metering takes place. Changing the size of the induction tract can cause problems though, as in some after market induction kits.

Whats the point of having a turbo car if you dont have a lush dumpvalve noise when you shift gear

Good point. When I changed my back-box I asked the dealer if it affected my warranty, he told me that they wouldn't be bothered by the back-box but he did say that changing the dump valve to a VTA will invalidate the warranty due to changing vital characteristics of how the engine runs, i.e. fuel/air mixture.

Of course, if you aren't bothered about the warranty then ignore the above!
