*Pic removed*
Just had a new set of neighbours, they look a bit chavvy as all their furniture arrived on the back of a van filled with mud .
But the fella owns the scooby above, am i right in thinking its only a sport ? Non turbo ?

That uk car also has an exhaust system by the looks so you can add some power for that, but your car depending on factors will be running about 240-250bhp even with the z4 ecu.
Performance wise.... probably not much in it, the uk car will pull better lower down but run out of steam higher up, the opposite to your jdm.

I just thought it was a sport as he started it this morning and it didn't sound too modded, doubt there's anymore than a back-box on it at present. No decals to give me any clues.

That looks like a very nice, clean MY99 unspoiled by any chav additions. You cant randomly guess the power by looing at the exhaust. Could be 220bhp, could be 500 (unlikely but possible).
The UK MY99 has an AE801 ecu. The JDM wrx has 240bhp, the STI has 276.

I have the same year uk scooby as that,
my scoobys running over 280+bhp and 284 torque
it looked just the same as the blue scooby from behind
but silver.
Most import scoobys power is on jap fuel so on uk fuel power drops, more like 240 wrx 276 sti

I think the easyest way is to pop the bonnet. Red manifold on an STi other than that the interior is STI specific and the STI foglight covers. STI is slightly lower..
Otherwise I don't know

If it burbles when it's running it'll be a turbo
(Stands by and waits for flaming due to distinct lack of knowledge)
Am I correct in thinking Sports don't have an unequal length manifold?

If a 1994 car was an STI (and it isnt); itd have a build plate with the cars number on ot, either one of one hundered or one of two hundred. Original altered production STIs have a large alloy rear spoiler, a ltd no. plate anda carbon strut brace as well as a higher rev limit. The applied model number ends 48D as other WRXs as the cars were converted after manufacture. They dont have 'red tops', STI type rear lamps and they do have front fog lamps.

The best way to be sure will be to look at the ECU. If its one of the 300 Saloon STIs it will have a sticker stating SA on it. These ECUs werent used on any other cars. I doubt that it will have though: 'its 280 bhp Mate' is regularly repeated in ignorance when any JDM WRXs are sold, even though most dont produce 280PS.

Yes; under the tread plate, which is held on by three bolts and a nut. If the ECU model number is one of the following: V9; 1C; U8; W6; W9; 2C, then you know that the car produces 240PS and that the man that you bought it from was a gob****e lying ****.
