hi newbie here with possibly a stupid question !
i have just sold my r33 due to my wife being a pain in the **** moaning about the boot size,2 doors, rwd, sideways in the wet and in the dry, harsh ride etc etc etc..blah blah blah !. so i said what do you suggest ?? blank ! so i have decided to make it either an evo 4 or impreza ! but wanted to know the in's and outs . i basically wanted to know if you could tell the difference between an sti and a wrx by looking at them . i am going to a jap auction (where i got my skyline) and sometimes they are described as sti's when they are not (according to a scooby mechanic i met there). so short of pestering him every ten seconds, i decided to ask you guys ! sorry if that was a bit long winded ! by the way ! hello ! ps i am lokking for the high 270's to 300 bhp's

excellent info but doesnt say how to tell the wrx's from the sti's by looks alone, only spec ! i just dont want to pay over the odds to find out in fact i have bought a wrx and not a genuine sti ! sometimes the auctioneer describes it as an sti but isnt. i just want to be able to spot the real differences as some cars are already modified when they get here !

Could be a daft question? But here goes..............
What year are you looking at? Are you after a classic/wagon, Bugeye/Blobeye?
If people have an idea what your after, they may be able to assist more
???????????????

look under the bonnet, in the ages your looking at an sti should have a red top engine (i.e. the inlet manifold painted red) the WRX wont. Thats the most obvious one TBH....externally they do look much the same, a true STI will have a few subtle decals saying "STI" but tbh, its not uncommon for a WRX previous owner to stick them on anyway...

Look at the Applied Model Number on the build plate located on the NS inner wing. A WRX's number ends 48D; a Type-RA (cheaper but more fun/extreme) ends 47D. If the APM ends either 4DD or 4ED youre away! If the last number is a 2 then itll be a two door; but there shouldnt be too much doubt as to what it is then.....
