as its an import, need an alarm,initial budget was £300, but seeing as alot of our scoobs are getting nicked etc, what kind of alarm system would be good to get for no silly amount, is £300 for an alarm going to be a good one, is there anything out there that does like total closure, immobilises etc for this price if not what price ?!?

was looking at The viper 460xv

i have a turbo timer too, but will only set it to 30 seconds for the Cat 1 to still be valid.

any that send a message to ya mobile etc if alarm is going off ?

Did the place you bought it from not offer an alarm as an upgrade?
If I was looking for one i'd call my insurance to see what they recommend, it's always good to stay on their good side. Plus then you know it's not been a waste of money.

If its an import you will need a full Cat 1 system for any insurance benefits as a Cat 2 to 1 upgrade system will not be valid as the standard immobiliser is not Cat 2 certified.

On your budget you should have no problem finding a Cat 1 (2 immobilisation circuits), but window closures can bump up the price as additional relays are required (as the vehicle has no total closure circuitry) and the labour for this can be costly too.
This could always be fitted at a later date when finances allow.

The Toad Text Alert system can be added to work with most alarm systems that have an accessory output when they are triggered. This is a GSM system, so has no range limitations and will text your mobile phone when the alarm is triggered. This unit can also text to advise you of low vehicle battery voltage. An additional subscription also allows the system to act as a basic tracking system which is accessible on-line.

Obviously I'm a little biassed here and of course would recommend a Sigma system, but the choice is yours.
With the Sigma M30 the biggest advantage was the the Radio Key.. or lack of it. One issue with an import is that it will have the standard Japanese "2-button" lock/unlock ignition key. This transmitter does not use a secure code, so cannot be used to switch a Cat 1 alarm system, so you will need to have a separate Radio Key from other manufacturers to switch the alarm, in addition to the bulky ignition key. If anyone says they can use the existing Japanese 2-button key to switch a Cat 1 alarm, then they are not familiar with Thatcham criteria and I would be very cautious dealing with them.
As the Sigma M30 is standard fit on the UK models, as separate remote was not an option, so the separate Sigma Radio Key PCB was redesigned to fit within the existing ignition key housing replacing the Japanese 2-button item and a new top section tooled with a single button - this meant that everything was built within the ignition key.
Although not available through the aftermahket the secure M30 PCB and key top section can be purchased through the Subaru dealer network.
It's not all good news, however, as unfortunately the Sigma M30 is no longer available in the aftermarket having been superceded by the S30. The S30 uses a different encryption method, so the M30 transmitter PCB cannot be used, however we have redesigning the S30 Radio Key PCB to fit within the ignition key, but this is not being produced untill the introduction of the S30 on Subaru models for 2008 model year.
In reality we should see these in the next 12 months, so if you can live with a separate Radio Key for 12 months, it could be replaced with the built in item in the future if you decide on the Sigma S30 system.
