I've decided that I should hold my Stag-Do at Le Mans which looks to be provisionaly timed for the 15th and 16th June.
I'm hoping to organise a convoy of cars in my group, and wondered if anyone can recommend routes (avoiding Paris!), Ferry companies, camping sites - Basically provide any useful information. (inc. Phone numbers).
We should have a few scoobs, a Legacy, a TR7V8, a morgan-a-like, and possibly a Jaguar C-Type, too!
If anyone else is planning to go, say hi... I might find ya there.

Sqizz - I went to Le Mans 2000 for my stag do - absolutely brilliant couple of days.
We went from Porstmouth to Le harve thereby avoiding Paris, ferry took approx 4 hours, and we went with Motor Racing International (can't remember their number), who organsied camping permits, race entry etc. - well worth the extra £ for the very good food/corporate facilities.
Get there as early as you can because the Friday before the race is manic.
You will have a fantastic time.............................

I've got their 2001 brochure in front of me. 2002 out soon.
They are very professional and the best firm to go with. My father has used them for years to go to every Formula One race in the world. We went to Le Mans with them last year and we'll be there in 2002.
All their tour guides are motorsport experts who find out the inside stories during the races. In their huge marquee they get several of the British drivers to come for question and answer sessions.
Its brilliant. Go!

Wahey! Crapaud62, you star!
Thnx for the info, I've been looking for a site for them without success. Found lots of good information though - Does indeed seem like they're the guys to take the strain out of the organisation.
I'll ring them and order posted details for 2002...
Anyone used a Southampton -> St. Malo route??

Hi Squizz
Nice move! A stag do at Le Mans is the mother of all ways forward!
Southampton to St Malo is good news. Get the overnight ferry so you can knock the froth off a couple on the way over and then it's an easy run (about 4 hours)on the other side.
Enjoy!
Cheers

Oi Oi Saveloy...
I'm relying on you to lead the group, Monsieur Askew!
I'll be interested to hear what you've been up to lately - Including your brush with the law, matey.
Depending on what happens on my Stag-do, she may yet change her mind! So how far is Amsterdam from La Sarthe??
I thought I'd better get info and start booking stuff well in advance. I've got lots of peeps to organise, and this event is becoming stupidly popular.
"Hawaiian Tropic Girls"? (fumble)

Pleased to help.
Unfortunately, MRI don't have a web site. I've tried to pursuade Gary (the MD) to get one but he's a bit of a Luddite and thinks it will need a full time person to maintain it. If there are any good web designers on here (Blowdog etc?) it may be worth giving them a call. They are missing out on a lot of business. They apparently don't want to get any bigger as a company as they feel the quality may suffer, an interesting thought.
You don't need Amsterdam, just go to the adult side shows. There was one years ago with an old stripper and a disappearing snake I've never felt sorry for a snake before!
Ferry to St. Malo is a great idea. The ferry from Jersey goes to St. Malo and its a nice drive from there. You can take the longer route round to the South of Le Mans. Don't blast along the Rennes to Le Mans motorway as "Les Flics" will have speed traps there. Take the back roads as these are great fun at moderate speeds 80 - 90 mph.
I've been going since late seventies so if you've got any other questions then ask away
See you there.

Crapaud62, thanks again!
Methinks I'll definitely have to have words with Gary, as I'm connected with a New Media company. We specialise in website design, and I'd dearly love to be involved in a site viewed by motorsport enthusiasts. One of our designers has already done one for a Touring Car driver...
Funnily enough, I'm hoping to have everyone in our group dressed in special t-shirts/hats promoting our company, and rightly displaying:
"********* proudly supporting the Brits @ Le Mans!"
(*' out coz I don't wanna be accused of advertising. )
Adult shows, moi? C'est la vie!

Ian - Much as I'd like to be able to involve you in our trip... It is my Stag-Do with costs being spread amongst friends, and it's already a logistical nightmare!
That said, if you organise yourself to go, and your route coincides with ours, then you're more than welcome to convoy down with us.
That goes for everyone.
Sorry mate, but I have to draw the line somewhere - I'm sure you understand.
As for you Gazza - Nice one!! Sounds like a plan.

Tried to organise my stag-do @ LeMans last year, but left it too late. By the time I tried to book it up, only the VIP sites ahd spaces left and the prices started to spiral upwards.
This year managed to join a group who've got it organised in time. So far the convoy is..(The bulk work at Accenture )
R Reg, Porsche Boxster
S Reg, BMW 323Ci
S Reg, Porsche Boxster
V Reg, Audi TT
X Reg, Fiat Coupe 24v
P Reg, Audi A3 Turbo
R Reg, Lotus Elise
R Reg, BMW Z3
Honda S2000
Kawasaki 2 wheel thing
+
My MY95 Impreza. (Hopefully will have changed before June though)
Worried I'll get stiffed with all the tents and beer
Most of them are hoping for sun - I want plenty of rain. Should be fun watching that little selection of Hairdressers cars get off a wet muddy campsite I'll be half way home before they get out of LeMans

Deano - When you said you left it too late last time, when was that??
I've heard that Ferry crossings are already getting well booked up.
Fingers crossed I got my oar-in at the right time!

Started to organise about mid feb I think, by the time people were confirming numbers etc we'd go back to book and the places would have gone. So it would start again with new ferry/campsite etc - a few days to confirm new prices and it would have gone again. Gave up Mid March I think.
Our stumbling block was campsites. Problem seemed to be lots of block bookings by tour operators reducing the number of pitches available to book personally. We could still get ferry amd race tickets but were having to resort to the VIP campsites (with nice bars and restaurants) which was escalating the cost.
I think now is the time to be getting it sorted (this years booking for the group I'm going with has gone in this week).
