Question Differences between 53 plate and 55 plate STi ?

Hi,
Just looking into the possibility of updating my MY00 to a Blobeye STi, can someone tell me the main differences between the cars, I'll be looking for a PPP'd one, but is the drive better in the later model ? if so about when did the newer one start being sold ? (04 ? 54 ? 05?).

Thanks

Ian

Try looking on Evo magazine website. They will have a write up on the my2005.

You might need to register tho.

I was hoping to get some feedback from actual owners, like yeah it's worth getting the latter model because ........ etc.

DCCD is the main difference. I would've like that. I've not driven one with this, but it would've been fun to try it out.

You have different dials for the heater etc. There's some suspension mods too. Different alloys (and fitment).

As above but also wider track and slightly longer wheel base I believe. I've only really driven my 05 STi but evidentally there is quite a difference between the two.

Doesnt the '05 use the suspension from the earlier blob eye Spec-C?

Ian as peeps said the 05 has wider & longer track, wheels 114.3mm PCD, DCCD, bigger front wheel brgs and some interior and exterior cosmetic changes. It does handle better than a 04 model. IMHO

Moved from an MY00 Classic Turbo to a 03 Sti (Without DCCD) and without PPP. And found the drive to be the same. Then upgraded to PPP, and never looked back. The DCCD first came into this country on the 04 WR1 and then later on the 05 STi.

I owned a 53 STI after owning a P1 and thought the handling was terrible at the limit compared to the P1! Then got offered the 05 STI with free PPP and what a difference compared to the 53 STI. The major changes are to the chassis with it being taken from the Spec C with the DCCD and much better tyres (070`s). There are slight exterior changes and the interior is better. My choice is the 05 STI and with the PPP even better!

The anti roll bars are different, they use the thicker ones as seen on the JDM Spec C (and thats all, no other suspension mods), the wheelbase is slightly longer as per the Spec C, DCCD with a yaw sensor, slight change to the interior and as Tony says, different PCD, but otherwise pretty much mechanically the same as the earlier cars.

Thumbs up

Thanks guys, that helps, think I will save the extra pennies and go for the 05 model,
So anyone getting bored with their 05 STi PPP (in about 6 months) and fancy going back to a mint unmolested low mileage (33k) classic, let me know.
