Import cars
Can some one tell me the problems with owning an import car? I've heard insurance can be a bit for a tricky one but are there any more?
Is there anyway to tell if a scoob is an import just strictly by looking at it?
Cheers.

I've never had any problems mate. Insurance wasn't anymore expensive and parts and services are the same price. Dont listen to the scare tactics. You get alot more car and extras for your money with imports.

I was always put off imports as I thought that insurance would be a nightmare(me being 23) So I always had uk model scoobys like turbo 2000 and a blobeye WRX. I recently changed my WRX for a Jap import Evo 7 and when I phoned my insurance company they where more then happy to swap the policy over and charge me only a extra £40! They said that they didnt have any problems with the car being a jap import.

that really depends on where the car was imported from mate....
Jap Imports.... Main draw back, no history,
EU imports..... Difference in spec, although for not a lot of money the spec can be made up, but, then its not standard. Also, if its a new car under the manufactures warranty, i have heard of problems claiming from UK dealers. When selling the car, i personally would offer the vendor less than someone selling a like for like UK equivalent model. They cost less initialy, and i would expect to have to pass on that discount when selling it on, as many people also share the same view.
insurance on EU imports differs slightly if at all, where as jap imports can differ massively depending on who you go through.
Best advice would to search the forums mate, then make your decisions then rather than what people post here. As my post is bound to cause a little bit of a stir lol
