Is this right?

Handbrake on, revs at about 4000 rpm, clutch biting and let the clutch snap up when your foot slips off it, handbrake off and right foot down simultaneously.

Is there a better way of doing it?

One things for sure, you`ll be looking at a new gearbox after about 5 attempts.

Side stepping the clutch is a real no-no in a normal road going scoob.
Side stepping the clutch and then releasing the hand brake is even worse.

Be as smooth as possible for best results.

Yeap, these wheels are sure to spin for a second or two before the gearbox / clutch gives up.
