Question

After my recent once only, first time, sort of breakdown after 130k miles (well not broken down, but did not want to risk driving further than necessary), I've decided to join a breakdown recovery service.

Has anyone got any recomendations or comments? I'm not looking for anything like home start, just someone to get to me on time and take my car back home or the nearest Subaru garage . Also some one who knows not to tow an impreza on only two wheels

RAC, but then it comes with the Scoob.
As for towing, very dodgy subject as far as Scoobs go and many a car has sustained damage through trying to be pulled up a ramp onto a tow truck. Always walk round the car with them first and state there is no damage, before they try to get your car onto the back of a truck etc.

I've used Green Flag for years and found them great - very handy when I had the TVR, and my dad crashed it in North Wales!

Have used RAC in the past and they are pretty good in fairness. Switched mine earlier in the year when I bought my Scooby to Directline (Got a discount cos my insurance is with them too!) and they are much cheaper.I think RAC wanted something like £145ish to cover me and my other half for home start etc,etc and Directline did it for £104 if my memory serves me correctly. The discount wasn't that much off the total cost but every little helps uh?

You can get quoted on Directlines website for car cover at http://www.directline.com

Cheers,

Nick..

Wink

I used green flag, I found them great too.
They dont just insure your car, they insure you as a person so whos ever car you drive, the car is covered.
and they do a good couple rate price all for one cheap price.

I also think they where the cheapest out of the ones mentioned too

I've always been with the AA (10 years now). Called them out a few times, never any problem. YMMV.

redrac.com £1/month unless you break down then £40-50 IIRC which gives you RAC service as though you were a member. Depends on whether you think you'll have less than one call out a year.

Question

Has anyone any comments/experience of the Subara Assistance breakdown cover (3yr) that comes standard with new cars (well, my MY01 anyway)???

Good points, bad points, things to watch out for?

Hi,
Since you have a 4WD scoob which can't be towed by the smaller vans you'll probably find most of the biggies sub-contract the actual towing to smaller local firms with the proper recovery vehicles to do the job.

You'll also find most peeps won't have a clue when it comes to roadside diagnostics and cures ('where's the spark plugs!!').

i've been paying a premium with RAC (for my two scoobies) for the last three years and getting the same recovery service (i.e. I can't fix it - take it to a dealer!) as I did when i was with the cheaper green flag (had a citroen BX then - that couldn't be towed either with the crappy suspension ).

Once this years expired I'm going for the cheapest.

I'm with Britania and find them very good. The premiums are low (I think I pay £65 for me and the wife, any vehicle), and both times I've used them this year (once for the car, once for the bike) they've had somebody out to me (in the correct vehicle) in 30 minutes. They also believed me when I said recovery was needed, no chance of roadside repair.

Question

DMB

I think that Mondial provide the "Subaru Assistance" service.

Has anyone else used them? How good are they? Are there any bad points?
