LPG conversions
#1
I'm thinking of buying a standard 2l Impreza saloon but to make it affordable to run I want to convert to LPG (saving approx £100 per month on fuel bills) anybody out there done this?
I've checked the archives I'm definitely interseted in offering up for testing if anyone else is Has anyone approached Subaru? May be future selling point? Worth a go at sponsorship?
Autogas in Frodsham and Liverpool quote around £1100+VAT dependant on tank size. At 16K per year should take only 15 months to be in clear profit ( especially if you can talk your dealer into writing off the VAT)
Any advice on where to get it done (North West)or any pitfalls, greatfully recieved. Looking at a 00 demonstator this afternoon.

Phil,we look after a car used by Richmond Parks, cos it runs in the park all of their cars/vans have had an LPG conversion.Last time I saw the car the O2 sensor had failed.Checked with Subaru would not honour the warranty.Best to check with IM's

We were discussing this recently but wrt Turbo's and as I remember no one had tried it, I don't think it would be safe on a turbo'd car but hey.
In your case I can't see any problem as it's not a turbo, did you know that if the car is under a year old (I think) you can get a grant to have the work done ? I think you get a 1/3rd off. I can't find the link to it but I'm sure someone else will post it.

Looked/ing into this as 40,000 mile p.a. to work.
Still interested, but there is no grant available because no-one has stumped up the £1500 test fee for compliance! Kits are available round the £1200 +VAT mark.
Just for the record, I would chop the Vectra Diesel in for a Sport & not PTMW!

LPG is definitely the way to go for non-performance cars. However, the duty is currently peanuts and is frozen until 2002. I wonder what the 2002 Government will do to the duty then. But, on the positive side I reckon they'll leave the duty alone - after all, most of the Government cars run on LPG. IMHO, the best car to convert to LPG is a V8 Range Rover.
