On the 6, the rear wing is a bit steeper, or might be just flicks up more at the rear edge, think clock surrounds have a bluey tint, and you have to hold down the clutch in order to start it.

There are only cosmetic differences and the clutch start system, everything else is the same as the V5 sti.

Depends if you want a black car, as the v6 sti does not come in black but it does come in that lovely cashmere yellow!

From what i can tell scanning all the normal places, autotrader, scoobynet, pistonheads and flebay the V6 is nowhere near as common as the V5.

FYI they made 2000 v6 STI RA Ltds and 1000 v5 STI RA Ltds - making the v5 STI RA Ltd the rarer model

Version 5 has an open deck block while still being an ej207, version 6 should be the first ej207 to have a semi closed deck block with the semi forged pistons

no worries - youre not the first and you certainly wont be the last to do it!

are you in Wellington NZ or Wellington UK? and whats the spec on your car?

There is plenty of knowledge/info buried in these forums so you can be sure any issue/query you have has been asked before just takes a lot of searching usually to find it!

that's a good point, there'll be someone else eventually 😂

I'm from wellington New Zealand, I'm 25, and it's a 99 version 5 WRX with an open deck version of the EJ207. My engine had rod knock, I pulled it out and tore it down to find the whole bottom end was a write off but I'm considering a new STI shortblock from Subaru, and reusing my original heads so I can use the same manifolds, loom and ECU. But I was also curious about how easy/difficult to put in a whole Version 7 STI EJ207 in a gc8, which brought me to these forums
