Default In Trouble

Hi Just in a spot of bother, came out of work today, started the car and drove off as normal, looked at speedo, and it wasnt working, dam, then as i gave the car a little shoe, to about 5k revs it felt like it hit a wall, and now check engine light is on, i know i should use the search but im in a hurry.
Any help, will disconnecting the battery clear the fault, hope its only a miss.
Cheers

Try reaching up under dash towards the clocks and feel for the speedo cable. Try pushing it back onto your clocks. That might resolve the problem if it's loose, also reset the ECU, sure I remember someone or people saying that the ECU goes into "limp" mode if the speedo cable is disconnected, which could be the reason for your CEL.

Hope that helps.

Micky.

Also have a quick look under the bonnet, where your cable comes out of the gearbox the two halves of the cable may have come apart, if they have they will need cliping back together with the square type spring that should be holding them together.........if that's the prob and it's missing let me know and i'll post you one out free
Dave.
